Well, this will be a bit of a blog a bit of a writing therapy a bit of a brainstorm session and some humble bragging. Also advice would be nice.

Mrs and I will have my home paid off next month July 1st I own her out right. A tiny back story I bought with a heavy down payment 9 years ago on a 15 year note. I got it with plans of my ex and I having a family. Didn't pan out kept the home hassle free since we never got married.

I live pretty simple it's in a great area and gone up about 60+k (not factoring upgrades). Mrs moved in from her apartment I got her to spend her "rent" to pay her debts off then we got super aggressive to clear this note.

Im not 40 she's younger she'll have a full pension early 50s. I'm getting her to tuck away some extra in an IRA.

I've put money into the home not a ton more time (have a lift in the garage added insulation new AC added a door between bathrooms paint yada yada lots of yard work). Aside doing the kitchen we're very happy with the place.

We're actually happy all around. So something were trying to figure what do we do? This frees up almost 3k a month. Our retirements are set stuff isn't much a draw, travel we'd like to wait till works out of the way or less.

We plan to give some to things we support but both feel time is more important than cash. Family is stable and we're helping my god kids for school currently.

Were already investing, saving and comfortable. As for jobs we're not ready to stop (least her because if she's loses that pension I'll kill her) my ego won't let me step away from my career and really it's not like we're "rich" to just stop working. We have more or less than you think. Lol. Not one penny of debt between us now.

I guess as I said semi joke it's a humble brag but what the heck should we do? Figure this will be a good place to post it because probably get some advice some assmad some memes and I said writing it all out kinda clears my own head about the blessing of a situation I have.

Homes paid off
Money stored away
Almost 40
Wat do?

The kitchen is on the to do list. I hate hate hate the term forever home but this place works great for us so I don't see us moving probably till they carry us out of here.

I guess as the date comes closer, it's kinda overwhelming in a good way but still were able to be in this spot. We're very happy with our quality of life.

I do the investments for us so I am also kinda unsure if I just roll this stuff into it or focus on funds for home/emergency etc.

I feel better just getting it off my chest as much as I half joked it's a brag it's a lot to take in. Neither of us expected to be here or so young. We don't want to be wasteful and hedonistic nor do we want to just throw it to sick puppies with out any boost to our lives.

Because work and stuff a second home or beach etc really isn't in the cards too much upkeep or drama.

Keep doing what you're doing, and focus on family. Be aggressive taking time off work and go travel if you want to do that - better to do what you want now because you can't predict the future. Especially since you're still young and presumably healthy, 40 isn't remotely what it was even 20 years ago.

As a personal aside, one of my biggest regrets is sacrificing so much for work. My mom passed away earlier this year due to a stroke, it happened suddenly and was something nobody could have expected. I think back to all the times I canceled things or missed family events because of work or wanting to impress some asshole boss who couldn't care less if I lived or died.

You can always make more money but you can't make more time. Focus on yourself and your family first.

Sorry for your loss. I didn't want to get into it but I just sunk a ton of time into my folks who have had some health scares. Thankfully behind us but they are older and now stable.

I think part of my stress on this good event is actually related to that too. We're free in almost every sense.

Youre right Mrs basso wants to see her family town in dago land id love to visit the city my family left from (that's in another country now lol).

Im almost let down no ones suggested hookers and blow. I mean this is the farms shit posts are legitimately part of why I posted this .

Personally I'd blow it all on an expensive and fun hobby, I've known a few guys who got close to retirement then started making more incidentally from their hobby than they ever made in their profession and one who became a multi-millionaire from it.

I wouldn't have the goal of making money though just having fun.

I’d say keep saving but also two things, since they’re what I would do if I had the money to do so:

Find an organization or charity I’m interested in and donate a healthy number. Something that would get your name in the monthly newsletter as a contributor. It would make me feel good

Plan a fun trip. Anything really. Just take a month and travel cross country and pick hotels where you land for the night and stay in comfort, or go abroad and see something you want to see.

Congratulations on your financial freedom! Take a bit of time to congratulate yourself for it!

I already like cars (we have 5) and have a lift in the house... I collect vintage fire arms and love scuba I might be able to afford my hobbies finally lol.

I don't know how I could turn it into money but that's a tempting idea.
I happen to know of a starving child in Africa trying to run a humble kiwi farm who could really use your generosity.
I only donate to African Royalty, how do you think I got this wealth? Hard work no I'm just waiting on that check from a Nigerian Prince.
Focus on raising a family especially now that you do not have the financial worry of a mortgage. Work on upgrades to the home, windows, furnacing, AC, while also building savings. Put some of that money in a couch potato portfolio and enjoy the easy ride.
Probably kinda hard to figure what to do as we're really happy with the place as is. I do want to do the kitchen.
You can buy a boat on aliexpress
Mrs basso said " don't give him an excuse to buy a pick up and trailer".
I think you should compulsively gamble your paid off house away.

On a serious note, why not go on a vacation together to celebrate your victory?
I just got back from a last minute freed slot on a dive trip. Hard is working around our jobs but we definitely want to do something. Mrs needs a passport but that gives us time to plan.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and advice. I expected a lot more shit posts, not sure if I'm happy or let down. Lol.

I also deep down part of me hoped this motivates someone. It's very possible to come from a lower middle class and be here now. Just don't let the lolcows know I have a soul

Save up for health emergencies, pay off car loans, start a family. This is the youngest you'll ever be again.

lol loans. Our newest car is from 93....... In my entire life I made 2 car payments and that's a funny story aside.

Also again I enjoyed this, I was expecting more shit posting. Check cleared a few calls got stuff sorted for tax.. but it's mine 100% This home. I put the big eagle on the front door. (for those unaware a federal eagle on front door was an old American sign you owned out right).

For the earlier comment I quoted, while I probably PL far too much here. I'm not dropping where I live, what I paid or how many family members I have. But I promise, all of them are good. Again part of this is something I hope people read and feel inspired. Some retard online can do it.. you can too.

Also I kinda haven't kept up with crypto.. I got into btc when it was 3k... not deep enough my house has a helipad but I digress.
