What type of computer do you have discussion thread

Well, I've got my gaming laptop that's pretty much on it's last legs, to the point where I'm going to build my own desktop soon and then get a much smaller laptop. It's an Alienware M17x R4 that I got back in 2012 when Alienware was running a sale. For gaming laptops at the time and even now, they're hideously overpriced but I was able to get 33% off so it all worked out. Worked great for 2 years and then started giving me lots of trouble about as soon as the warranty ran out. Ran absolutely awesome on Windows 7 but I had to upgrade to 8 upon an SSD upgrade (even if it was dirt cheap) and I've had nothing but problems with multi-core allocation and the graphics drivers (specifically graphics switching).

So it has an Intel i7 3610
17" 1080p monitor
AMD Radeon 7970m graphics card that was awesome until Windows 8 got screwy
16 GB of RAM (originally came with 8 GB but I got an upgrade when the motherboard had to be replaced)
250 GB mSATA SSD (got it as an upgrade when I had to have the motherboard replaced)
1 TB hard drive (2 500 GB's in RAID0)
motherboard had to be replaced due to an issue with the integrated soundcard having a faulty connection
keyboard's been replaced once and that one has to be replaced since it's not registering keys

Since I have to use a desktop keyboard (I got an open box Logitech G510s a while back), I'm using a 32" 1080p TV as a monitor that my brother and I haven't found any use for at our apartment with my laptop monitor as a secondary. Refresh rates aren't the best but I'm really, really overdue for a new computer anyways so I'm not really playing many FPSes where it matters. As far as working on it the screen size is awesome. A bit too big, I'd scale it back down to a 27" when I build a desktop, but good anyways.

Other than that, I've got my brother's 5-year-old HP laptop that has a dead battery so it has to be plugged in all the time. I set it up as an XBMC machine but it's too laggy and too hot for it's own good. I've also got a 8-year-old Compaq laptop that I'm using as a NAS4Free server (That's literally all that it's good for now). Works great and is a lot more convenient for letting everything use an external hard drive.

Sweet, looking at the data sheet for your opti a processor upgrade isn't really a option and your a little limited when it comes to memory (dell where / are a little shitty when it comes to ram).

This Ram & This HDD are about the only upgrades you can do (I linked a UK supplier but the drive and memory can be found world wide) I would normally suggest a SSD but the SSD wouldn't be worth it (possibly worth more than the system it's self) and the performance boost given by the SSD would be bottle necked by your processor.

Awesome, I was already looking into RAM upgrades and those are a better deal then the ones I was planning to get. Thanks for the help.
