Ever seen a movie on TV but didn't know what it was called? Remember a show from years ago but you don't remember the name? This is a thread about that.

Describe a scene, premise, whatever you remember and see if any kiwis know what it is.

Starting this thread because there's a few movies/shows I remember but don't know the name of, and so far no one has been able to tell me what they were, so I've decided to see if kiwi's can help.

Movie A
I think this was a made for TV movie for the sci-fi channel. A man starts to see the modern world as a burned out apocalyptic husk covered by a simulation. He gets into trouble and is eventually kidnapped by a secret society of people who live in luxury, they know the world is a burned wasteland, but keep the plebs in a simulation for their own benefit. The main character laughs at this, as the secret society is also living in the same burned out world. To prove this, he slams a decaying table they see as brand new, and breaks it. This is written off as the superhuman strength of a crazy person.

Eventually he and a female sidekick end up on walkways under the city. They meet an old man running the real simulation, again for the peoples benefit. He says the secret society cult exists as certain kinds of people want that. The main character turns off the simulation and goes back into the city, only to find everything is made of brown cardboard with bar codes on it, including the cookies from the oven. Everyone else is so dependent on the simulation that, even when turned off, they see the world as the modern day.

I don't think it's 13th Floor. From the trailer of that movie, the simulation is green wireframes, with the twist that the real world is a simulation that built another simulation inside of it.

TV Series B
Michael Madsen plays a man who helps people in need, under the condition they will do him a favour in future. Each episode was him helping people while calling in favours from people he helped in previous episodes. I remember one episode he gets injured and calls in a favour from a vet to patch him up.

Movie C
A movie, but could be a show. Likely before or around 2005. I want to say it was sci-fi but it could be just high tech modern. It looked like a TV movie. The details are super vague here and could be wrong as I'll explain later.

The villain is in a future room (likely an office, secret base, or room of a ship), and suspects the good female sidekick of being a traitor. To prove she's not, he has her strip to her underwear in front of him. She does so, but he's not convinced and has her locked up. (The underwear was red iirc) I want to say there was an evil female villain who was blonde and dressed in a sort of space dominatrix outfit that interrogates her, but I'm not sure.

No. This wasn't a porn movie. And I'm vague on the details because it was on in the background while we played Resident Evil Zero, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Command and Conquer Generals at a friends house many years ago. Because those games are all around 2002, but we weren't playing on release day, I put the date before 2005.

Movie D
A sci-fi movie. Some space men are on Mars with an AI controlled robot dog. I assume something goes wrong, because they decide to salvage the robot for parts. The AI is programmed for self preservation and attempts to kill the space men to save itself. I remember one scene where it attacks a guy, but doesn't kill him which the space men find suspicious. It was a calculated move to leave him injured to slow the group down so it would have an easier time killing the rest.

I know D. It's called Red Planet, and the robot's name is AMEE. Funnily enough, it was also lost in brain fog to me, except with different details - I remembered an astronaut finding an abandoned lunar lander and finding out that its battery was dead thanks to an audiovisual warning in Russian.

Will edit the post to add my own questions, though it's mostly related to fucking Donald Duck comics that I read 25 years ago.

Aight, here goes. Details from three different comics. Know nothing of the author or the artist, just vague tidbits.
1. Probably a time travel plot, might have involved Gyro Gearloose - one of the ducks gets transported into an alternate, postapocalyptic (?) reality where the industrial revolution went horribly wrong. The planet has become a wasteland with no vegetation in sight, the air is borderline toxic, and the society has been divided into the super rich upper class (dressing like fat cat caricatures) who live in cities encased in glass domes with chimneys spewing out smoke, and the poor who have to live outside and deal with all of that pollution (and apparently cold, because there's almost no way to light a fire). One distinct detail I remember is a poor kid running up to his/her mother with a tiny stick, happily announcing that he's found some wood. The mother then replies that she found a lump of coal earlier, making it one of the good days.

2. Very few details about this one. Aztec/Mayan themed expedition led by Scrooge, involving a ritual mask or a sculpture wearing said mask. The mask's name was "Divine/God Maw of Portobudo" or something like that.

3. Also very few details, but the ending stuck with me. Scrooge goads Donald and the nephews into joining him on an expedition to find a legendary (possibly also cursed?) treasure, which is just a fuckton of gold, said to invoke primal greed in those who see it. They might be racing John D. Rockerduck on this, I'm not sure. Beforehand, Scrooge agrees to split the treasure 50/50. It's worth noting that the treasure is located somewhere near a big body of water, a sea or an ocean. They eventually succeed, and Scrooge begins to load the gold bars onto his tandem chopper. It's obvious he intends to take all of them, and just before he takes the last three, Donald intervenes and nicks the bars before Scrooge can grab them, saying something along the lines of "Halt, these are for me and the boys!". I remember Scrooge having a deranged, hungry expression, reaching out towards the bars with his hand in response to this. In the end he gives them up, but also hops to his chopper and takes off in it, leaving Donald and the kids stranded in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, his parting words being something like "Buh-bye, I'm sure you can find your way back". With no other choice, Donald and the kids start heading back. In the meantime, Scrooge is gloating among the massive pile of gold in his chopper, when suddenly the floor gives way and all of it is dumped into the sea, which is witnessed by Donald and the boys. Not wanting to know whether Scrooge will come back for the three bars they took, they decide to put some pep in their step.

Some guys head was in a jar or tube, I think his skin melts off and he turns green or some shit and starts screaming. I know it was probably laughably bad but I saw it as a kid and it absolutely terrified me. It was during October so it was probably a horror movie halloween special. I'd really like to see it again after all these years.

Ok, there was a pizza in the middle of a kitchen table that had a face and could talk. Yes, there was a talking pizza in a movie in like the 90s or early 00s. I swear to god this happened in a movie I saw as a kid, and wasn't a fever dream.

is it House IV

Could be any movie really. Isn't sexual harassment how everyone ensures loyalty from their female sidekicks?

Movie 1:

It was a movie about three lobbyists that defend deadly industries, tobacco, weapons and alcohol. The funny thing is that it's mostly about tobacco, but since it's after the ban on smoking on television, you don't see a single person smoke in the whole movie. Which you don't really notice until it's pointed out. It's a very sardonic movie and at some point they even thank you for smoking.

Movie 2:

It was a teen movie from like the 2000's or 90's. It is superhard to find. I think it ended with his ex raping him while he's tied up, and then his new girlfriend getting angry with him for it, so he apologizes. Earlier in the movie the guy who was fed up with degeneracy and he made a completely unthinkable pledge to not have sex for 40 days and 40 nights.

Movie 3:
I feel like it's a movie that everybody has seen. Some hackerguy gets in trouble for going down the wrong rabbit holes and some people believe he is a chosen one. He even dies and comes back to live at some point. I think there was some kind of AI or alternate reality, like stuck in some kind of matrix.

Please help me find the movies, I'd like to see them again.

Yeah, dude, there was that movie, you know, the one where the cowboys are like, “Hey, let’s just go out into the woods and uhhh... herd some sheep... but also maybe suck each other off behind a boulder.” Real gritty. What was it called?

That movie doesn't sound gay enough for my taste. Like I bet it has topless women in it.

Thanks guys. 20 years of not knowing these movies and you figure them out instantly.

So how did you find it?

I don't know it, but was it animated? And what year was it?

Asking because Futurama features heads in jars, and the simpsons halloween specials have a bunch of nightmare fuel. As for a movie, I'm thinking it might be one of the Reanimator or Return of the Living Dead movies because they feature that kind of thing.

Haha, I saw one of the Simpsons specials during this time too. This was the 2000s, my dad was flipping through stations on tv and my mom would chide him whenever he stopped on something too spooky. It was live action but it was probably really cheesy special effects. Not sure what year but it was airing on tv and we didn't have cable. I asked AI and skimmed through Reanimator because it sounded close but that wasn't it.
I'll try to explain it more. A guys head is floating in either a jar or a test tube of some kind. I think the jar fills up with some liquid, something starts happening and the head starts to freak out. I remember the head turns green or maybe the jar is filled with green liquid, he starts screaming and shaking around. I think he was bald and had a fat face.

It was some weird B horror movie I saw on tv way back in the day about this group of teenagers who were playing around with occult shit and summoned a demon or something that was stalking and killing them. They were hiding out in some abandoned building (hospital? Asylum?) the demon made this ungodly noise always before it killed one of them. It’s not Pumpkinhead or any of the sequels. It’s not Session 9 either

Shrieker 1998

I think

These might be hard since there's not much to go on.

1. I remember watching (actually, trying to ignore and sleep through) a movie my classmates watched in a hotel during a school trip. All I can remember is:
  • It was a horror film about a woman giving birth to evil babies, maybe the products of an experiment.
  • At one point, it had a sex scene with the pregnant female lead fucking while sitting in a rocking chair.
2. Another horror movie I saw on TV as a kid. All I remember is a black guy was driving a truck, had a huge tarantula spider jump or crawl into his face from behind, and he screamed, crashed, and died.
