What was your personal 9/11?

Getting the call that a family member shot himself through the roof of his mouth, but was coherent enough to say his name to the hospital staff because the bullet only took out his eye and a portion of the frontal lobe. Getting the recorded 911 call via email where he himself called and the shots are in the back ground. Thought he was going to bleed out and die that way, but nah, strong man. Too strong. Took him 10 days to die and he died of thirst from life support being taken away rather than his organs shutting down from brain damage. I was with him. I found blood and cleaned it up in the room he did it in. My SO helped dispose of the carpet, I helped him strap it up.

I realized it much later, but it was the first covid patient in the country. I wasn't affected by the virus itself and did not lose anything...apart from two years deleted from memory, and the remains of hope for better future I had left. I don't know where exactly along the way lined with IRL Papers, Please checkpoints I snapped, but since then I am a full blown doomer and world feels bleak.
