Everyone has bad experiences online due to the internet is pretty much a cesspool mixing every dumbfuck across the globe.

What was your expierence you had online that made you just questioning if that was a good idea?

When I was 15 I almost got doxxed by going a little overboard with some activity on one of 8chan's predecessors. They noticed my abrupt silence and continued to pursue, but could only get so far. Sheer luck, pretty much.

This documentary legitimately desensitised me to all gore online indefinitely. This was far worse than anything I’ve seen beyond the surface net, which is ironic as you’d assume the worst of shit would be on .onion sites.

Seen endless bad shit. One that stuck out was a video of a really old couple crossing the street. They were crossing in front of a truck with a high cabin that couldn't see them. The man tripped on the gutter and fell. Bringing the wife down with him onto the road. While trying to get up the truck started to move and the old man saw his wife get squished. So bad in the feels imagining what that would have been like for him.


Another bad experience was on a forum in a discussion about life in general, relationships, I don't really remember. Some random user replied to a comment I made in a really mean and personal way. It was direct at me and my character as a person and really resonated with what was going on in my personal life and my relationship. It seemed so targetted and directly mean and hateful towards me. Beyond anything that was mentioned in my comments. It felt specific to the situation I was in and calling me a cunt over it. Was this someone who know who I was? Was my online anonymity bubble busted? Was it just someone triggered by what I said going on a rant about something that aggrieved them that resonated to my shitty relationship at the time? I have no idea, but it freaked me the fuck out.

I remember a gore video from South America where a pitbull was eating a guys dick, ripping skin off like it’s a steak. Apparently the guy was a pedo so I’d say he deserved it, but that still made my dick hurt watching it. What made this stand out from other gore videos was that one of my biggest fears, like a lot of men, is that my dick is gonna get cut off, eaten, or mutilated in some way.

Mine socially come down to dealing with tumblr and twitterati who would come down and swoop in to teabag someone who hadn't done much or was a good person. Or people who would sit there and turn a forum/chat into an endless bitching sphere directed around them. Narcissist who wanted power in general, really.

Social media and nerd culture is great at letting super damaging personalities become popular and influence others.
