I've often been hanging out at the Urbanist thread where retards want to enact their authoritarian worldview on everyone else, so I've got cities on my mind.
But you are not an authoritarian retard, so what would YOUR ideal city actually look and be like? There are going to be the obvious things—certain demographics kept to a minimum, a city council that is not corrupt, and cost of living is not hilariously over the top, but what would your city actually be like?
For me, it would be a smaller town in America within an hours' drive of both the mountains and the beach, rainy sometimes but not often humid. There would be freeways and interesting railroad crossings, but mostly flat save for a few hills and low areas. A river runs through it.
The economy would be based on a lot of warehouses and manufacturing, similar to America in the 1950s and 1960s, but it pays well, and white-collar jobs are plentiful.
The city doesn't take well to chain restaurants and stores, most of them are high-quality local establishments that you've never heard of. The few chains usually have some sort of quirk to them, even the local McDonald's restaurants have additional menu items.
