Whats a good jrpg to play

Breath of Fire 2 is pretty good. Also has a monkey. Highly recommend Phantasy Star 4. 2 is also good but the difficulty spikes are nuts at first.
Oh hell yeah, Breath of Fire 2 is a fuckin masterpiece. Its story is a great metaphor of what the end result of blind fanaticism is. Also, G.Drgn is broke af lmao

Does Pokémon count as a JRPG? If so, I recommend anything from the fifth generation.

Everyone's already given reccomendations I was gonna dish out, so here's one I haven't seen yet.

I need to get around to playing them in full sometime, but The Disgaea games are one of those weird "popular yet you don't see people talking about them as much as you used to" games. They aren't like normal turn based jrpgs, and are more the weird sorta grid-based system rpg. The series is like the closest to earthbound in terms ovf vibes while being something completely different at the same time. Complete nonsense goofball funny shit with more serious hard hittingshit that happens as the plot progresses. I only played the ds port of the first one and never finished it but I got the switch remastered port that more or less just swaps some sprites out with ps3/ps4 sprites of the characters a year or so ago and started through that. Funny enough it's the only game I can think of that named a rerelease port of the first game "1" like the ps4/switch ports name is literally "Disgaea 1 complete". It's called "complete" because it has the extra shit added of all prior ports. You play as an insufferable little shit goblin fuckchild that kinda has a wario dynamic in the sense of he ends up unintentionally having to save the world despite him being a literal demon who seeks world domination and subjugation of the masses.

Every game in the series has a completely different plot but characters from the other games make cameos, or have roles in the plot to a minor degree. I literally only have experience with the first game and vague knowledge of the rest of the games. There's a 6th coming out soon that's changed some shit in a way people don't like, such as changing from sprites mixed with low-poly looking 3d backgrounds to just full 3d and what I like to call "game journalist mode". (auto-run mode that wins the match for you)

Word of advice if you play the first game: It's very easy to kill your own allies, there are penguins introduced at the start that the game seems to want you to throw so they explode and die but if you let them die like that it counts towards the "bad ending" counter. The way to get the true/best ending is to g through the game not doing shit like that and the only way i know about this is because back in the day when a few friends recommended me the game and told me about it.

Also 3 and 4. Same sort of graphic style of the first two and fucktons bigger .
Dude I've played all of them except VI cuz it's a shitty mobile game. They're all great, and if I had to rank from best to worst:

III
II
IV
Dragon Quarter
I

Series had a slow start, the first game had issues, though it was still fun.

I'm currently playing Breath of Fire 3. The only one in the series that I've played thus far, and I personally love it. Other people seem to either love it or hate it.

If you want a suggestion that hasn't been offered yet, I would say that the first two Shin Megami Tensei games are definitely worth your time. Nocturne is also good and a personal favorite of mine, although it lacks a lot of things that are present from the first two games.
