So it's this:

but not VR.
As you know, in 2016 in our timeline, the Clinton campaign selected Donald Trump to run against (they called it, "the pied-piper strategy"). As a result, the media supported Trump during the republican primary, ensuring he won the nomination.

Then, in the general election, they pivoted to calling him a bigot.
In our timeline, Clinton was so confident that she was going to win that she didn't even bother to cheat - or at least, not very much. Cheating is expensive, you see, and definitely not necessary.

...but then the unthinkable happened, and she lost.
That's the history of our timeline. What's going on in the other timeline? This timeline:

Clinton won in 2016. She nominated Obama to the supreme court to replace Scalia. You might have noticed that they barely fought at all when republicans blocked the nomination of Garland. They didn't fight because there was a deal in place to put Obama in.
With some other retirements, the supreme court is now heavily, heavily leftist. The 2nd amendment is interpreted to be a collective right - a right of the government. Individuals cannot own most firearms. In our timeline, this is mainstream leftist thought. In the other timeline, it is the law of the land.

There are lots more wars, of course. We're in Iran. There are boots on the ground in Ukraine. Where else?
and Covid - what happened with Covid? Well, the lockdowns came swiftly because leftists recognize the situation as an opportunity to exert social control. To this day there are vaccine passports, without which you cannot enter a grocery store or similar business. Social media censorship has gotten even more extreme. Dissidents are "debanked."

Things which happened in our timeline, but were opposed and eventually curtailed, go on unchecked in the other timeline.
Clinton is reelected of course. I mean, duh, of course! Biden was elected thanks in part to the substantial control that the left exercised over social media.

...but also due to the """fortification""" of the 2020 election.

So obviously, in the other timeline, Clinton won a second term.
But even so, her term ends tomorrow. Another democrat has been elected/selected to succeed her. The republican party has shifted to the left as well - with all the censorship, it's the only way they are allowed to exist. So doesn't matter very much who is elected.
What else is going on in that other timeline?
