What's something you remember that probably won't exist in the near future?

I took a walk today and for some reason I remember as a kid it wouldn't be uncommon to find money on the ground, nothing big but every now and then you'd stumble over a dollar, though with things trending towards digital, I doubt as many kids experience this today and none of them will experience it in the future. It felt strange as I remember it was always exciting when it happened and it made me nostalgic but also a bit mournful.

One stupid little fun thing I remember about having been in elementary school in the late 20th century was that a lot of educational films were still literally on film reels and, once the film had finished playing, they had to be rewound on to the reel so most teachers did that with the projector light on so you got to see everything in reverse.

The best educational films for "backwards" viewing were nutrition films that, of course, showed kids eating and it never stopped being hilarious seeing them unchew food and take it out of their mouths intact and put it back on the plate.

We also watched some films on VHS which obviously had to be rewound too but, while you could rewind with visuals in review mode, it wasn't as fast as the regular rewind mode and the visuals in review mode weren't nearly as crisp as it is when you play film backwards since most VCR heads only read "forward" so everything gets all wavy and distorted if the tape running over it is playing backwards.

I guess I remember being a kid, it was fine sometimes, other times it wasn't. I don't think it was that much different than now.

Why do you spend so much time thinking about the past? You know the past is imaginary, right? Like the second an outcome passes by the event horizon of the now it becomes imaginary, or maybe it was always imaginary. The past isn't supposed to be something you fetishistically obsess over, it's supposed to be a logical tool you use to improve your future outcomes.

Just today I was waxing nostalgic about the Hollywood Video that used to be in my town, so many memories of it and the local Blockbuster.

You can't beat the convenience of streaming, but dammit, there was just something to the experience of being in a video store, being surrounded by videos, looking over the shelves, the smell of carpet, popcorn and candy, talking to the employees, the overall atmosphere of the place.

Video stores are the first thing that pops to my mind as far as things that are totally bygone now that I experienced in my lifetime.
