What's the oldest defunct website you still keep in your bookmarks for nostalgia?

The earliest website bookmarked in my "current" (actually imported from an older computer) Bookmarks menu is http://excite.co.jp/world/english/web/

It's the Japanese to English translator on Excite, which was an early Yahoo competitor that went defunct in the west but which still operates as a general web portal/directory/search engine in Japan.

The link doesn't work anymore (it just redirects you to the Excite Japan front page) but you can still access the translation service (one of the few pages on Excite accessible worldwide) at https://www.excite.co.jp/world/english_japanese/

It's generally a better Japanese-to-English translation bot than Google's. I presume it's the same the other way around though I definitely can't read Japanese well enough to be able to declare that confidently.

CORRECTION: Excite still has several other portals outside of Japan. It's nothing like what it was in the late 1990s but it still exists. http://www.excite.com/

homestarrunner.com never really updates anymore, does that count?
That was actually my original post but then I realized the OP said 'defunct.'

They're still at it, which I'm amazed they kept the momentum going for 18+ years now, even though they were on hiatus for 4 of those years.

I gave my old PC to my uncle and purged everything. I should have kept the bookmarks though because sometimes stuff still lives when you least expect it to.

There must have been animu fansites from 2000 on that thing. I used to collect a lot of oekaki artwork from Japanese sites. Other than some friends sites from 2001 that are still there because Angelfire doesn't purge old accounts I can't think of anything too interesting. There was an amusing site on Geocities that had parodies of the old "This is the face of erectile dysfunction" ads. Male anime characters looking horrified with the slogan pasted on it.:lit:

Why didn't I save those? Sucks because the person who ran the site had it down for awhile then put it back up right before Geocities was euthanized.*sigh*

I had AniPike bookmarked for the longest time. That place was so useful back when people ran their own fansites. You could also use webrings to spend all damn day hopping around. It was endless. You like never ran out of fansites. That's where I picked up most of the fanart. Sadly I'm missing a bunch of stuff somehow. I thought it was all on a flash drive and it's possible that I just didn't put everything on this PC. But most of the art is irreplaceable now. I really should dump it on a chan sometime so other people can grab it. Some stuff will get lost forever.

These days it's all social media and not as fun. It's harder to get lost on a boring day. Plus you have to deal with fandoms insisting so and so is trans with leg hair and top surgery scars and everyone is drawn fug. And don't you dare like a "problematic" pairing even if it's canon or hinted as possible canon you disgusting piece of abuse apologizing trash.

I used to be a member of TAATN. But the person who ran the community shut it down because she couldn't stand the Sailor Moon community anymore and it was too much of a chore to manage. At least it wasn't that bad back then. Now it's all everyone is black and trans and fat and ect...

I guess the oldest site I have bookmarked now is actually GameFAQs.
