I've got experience with Wuxia, Stephen Chow films, the odd Hong Kong cinema. So when I saw this "Hey a puppet show? Like Thunderbirds? Cool."
Na boi, this scene in particular.
The mixing of both the 3d, the practical effects and the way Sho shrugs it off just as cool. It's speaking to the little boy in me that this Level 5 warrior can fight anyone he comes across, he just chooses not to.
Then this (kinda spoilers):
And the scene from the manga:
That Level 5 Warrior is in-fact a Level 20 Monk and his slobbish behavior means he doesn't go all out because not only would it attract attention, it's also tiring on him. Combine that with the SSI he carries and he has a target on his back. He just wants to dump the load of super powered swords in some volcano but people keep chasing him wanting it. That's perfectly relatable to me.
Pili have been doing this stuff since the 80s, they had a small movie released state side in the early 2000s but this, when Urobutcher saw a demonstration of the puppetry style at a convention in Taiwan in 2015, he approached them and said "I will write an entire season if I can work with you". 5 years, 3 seasons and 2 movies later, the series is still going strong. I love it.
If you're wondering on names, the Seiyuu speak their given Japanese names. So it's Sho Fu Kan for Sho, but the subs show their simplified Chinese names, Shang Bu Huan in this case. Both are correct and take a bit of getting use to.
Clip from the opening of Amnesia showing the main character almost being kissed by the 4 guys she interacts with throughout the series and her one true love (the blonde one).
It is something I drew for a fantasy project I am working on. It is a creature called a "basher ambulate". They come from a large biomass that has grown smaller creatures from itself to perform various tasks in maintaining itself...sort of like an immune system on a macro scale. These creatures are called "ambulates".
Ambulates are little more than mindless biological robots, and there are several variants. Basher ambulates play a defensive role in destroying large hostile creatures by pummeling them with their upper limbs as their bodies are highly elastic and the ends of their upper appendages are encased with hard bony scutes. They also have a waste disposal function as basher ambulates will regurgitate digestive fluids to dissolve the remains of slain creatures.
