Many of us have fallen prey to internet scammers in our naive youth. Did someone take advantage of a trade glitch to swap the valuable goods for worthless trash? Or were you the dread criminal yourself?

I was once falsely accused in Everquest. An item with 3 spell charges was sold, clearly advertised as such. I was immediately set upon by the buyer who accused me of lying, it didn't have unlimited charges. I never said it did! But he did overpay for that piece of shit item and I bought a whole set of armor with the gold. It was a good day in the Commonlands.

Runescape was the name of the game, whether it was armor trimming, 401k to 40k swap, or pretending to be a girl on the internet for gp, Runescape had it all. I settled for a comfortable living selling lobbies at the GE when the market was high. Now I specialize in investment portfolios and stock trading.

jk I'm destitute

The worst I ever had was in Diablo 2 where someone convinced me to drop an item in Act 2 so they could get a screen shot of it. This was behind a wall in a building, which should prevent it being picked up, but that wall apparently allowed stuff to be picked up through it from one side only. It wasn't a particularly good item but kind of annoying.

I've never been scammed. Even as a stupid kid, I knew someone inviting you into the Wildy meant they were going to kill you and that you should never share your password. I tried the female avatar thing in Runescape to see if it actually worked. It did not work.

The wild scammers are too obvious. Just give me your rune armor and I can trim it here in Varrock, no wilderness necessary

Mine, like OP's is an Everquest story too. My friend had a discontinued item called Mask of Tinkering that allowed your character to cast a spell to look like a gnome. Since it no longer dropped there were only a few around and it was worth millions of platinum (Everquest's version of gold). He was doing a scam where he would trade it with someone on another server, somehow convinced them to give him the money first and then just go MIA and never give them the item.

It was a real scumbag move but I did get some sweet twink gear out of keeping it quiet.
