Games that involve jumping on platforms (and lot's of it).

Your mom.
Mine too

In seriousness, my favorite platformer(s) is(are) the Ratchet and Clank series, although that isn't solely a platformer. I like(d) the comedic story and third person shooting mechanics added to a 3D platformer. Without the unique weapon selection and shooting in general, they would have been sub-par platform games, though.

Revenge of Shinobi.

Joe Musashi doesn't care if you're Spider-Man, The Terminator, or Godzilla. There's copyright he won't violate, he's getting his gal back.

Plus that Yuzo Koshiro soundtrack keeps you pumped.

I never realized how much of a manlet klonoa was back in the ps1 days, but considering it was one of my first games, Lunatea's Veil is probably my favorite 2d platformer
in terms of 3d, either banjo kazooie, galaxy 2, or bing bing wahoo odyssey
Edit: messed up which klonoa game I was talking about sorry

Super Mario Sunshine is my absolute favorite 3D platformer, with some other faves being: Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Banjo-Kazooie & Tooie, Rayman 2 (the N64 version), Donkey Kong 64, Gex 2 & 3, the classic Crash and Spyro games, Psychonauts, the Ratchet & Clank games, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, Voodoo Vince, and Dr. Muto.

Kirby 64 is my favorite 2D platformer, with Donkey Kong Country Returns in second place.

Umihara Kawase has a neat gimmick and some buttery ass physics for a SNES game.

Wow, that's amazing. The rope physics reminds me of Worms, but I'm fairly certain it predates the series by a year.

I really enjoyed Kid Chameleon. Tough as nails and over 100 levels, a large majority of which are off the main path through the game.

For a "modern" title, I'd pick Cave Story.

Toss up between Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil.

I love Sly 2 as well, but that's more of a platformer/stealth hybrid kind of game.

Doom Eternal. Joking aside, Psychonauts and Ty the Tasmanian Tiger. Love Ty because of the unique setting and music. The stories in the first two are fun rides, too. Third Ty game is where things go a little downhill. Still a fun game, but it feels so unfinished. Fourth game is an average 2D platformer of its time.

Psychonauts has good gameplay, a fun story, unique setting, good writing, and Lungfishopolis.

I couldn't get into it because of the absurd enemy respawning. Pretty much any amount of scrolling will respawn the enemies, even on the platform you're currently standing on.

Let's leave the obvious classics like Mario off the table here, how about some other platformers?
"Metalstorm" for NES is a great action/gunning platformer where you can reverse gravity. It's recently been re-released too, so you can buy it for less than $1000.
"MC Kids", also for NES, is surprisingly good and a bit reminiscent of Mario even though it's a McDonalds tie-in. Immensely long and no save/password feature though.

Super Mario Land 2 is my favorite. Mario 1 & 3 is great too. Sonic 2 is fantastic. I think S3&K is too long for its own good. Mostly S&K.

Super Mario 64 is GOAT for 3D platformers.
