Some muslim boy brought a 'homemade clock' to school, which was the display from a digital clock and a bunch of loose wires in a case, and the boy was punished because the teachers thought it was made to look like a bomb on purpose. The media narrative was that it was racial profiling, and I said it was more like overzealous zero tolerance bullshit. I got a lot of flak for arguing that on the message board I frequented at the time. Got branded a 'right-wing piece of shit' after that. Then Gamergate happened and I've been falling down the rabbi hole ever since.

Two events:
When I was 16, or 17, and got into an argument with me young nephew about him calling people retarded like he even understood what I was saying. It was a moment of realization for me, that I had gotten too deep into the culture my friends and I had built around ourselves.
And
When those same friends began threatening and bullying people they didn't agree with but otherwise had no other actual beef between them. Major breaking point was an actual list of usernames and ways they would kill them.
