When was the last time you wrote a letter? Can you reply to this thread like you’re writing a letter?

Dearest fellow kiwi,

I hope you are well. I write to you today with great curiosity. When was the last time you have reflected upon a letter? What is it about adding pen to paper, and sending a physical message that seems much more sincere? Is it the effort that counts?

Or maybe it’s the ability to preserve a letters meaningful contents that’s more enticing. As a fellow QnA poster I’m sure you’d know how quickly things can disappear. Posts and threads disposed of, discarded, left inactive and forgotten. Everything’s fresh for about six seconds before it’s forgotten entirely. In a world where everything is forgotten and constantly changing, perhaps a nice letter provides a sense of comfort to keep. A reminder of the past. Perhaps that sense of preservation provides comfort. We don’t have much control of our lives or the passage of time, but we can control our letters.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Yours truly,

- Mr Mnr

Dear Slim, I wrote you but still ain't callin'

I left my cell, my pager, and my home phone at the bottom
I sent two letters back in autumn, you must not've got 'em
There probably was a problem at the post office or somethin'
Sometimes I scribble addresses, too sloppy when I jot 'em
But anyways, fuck it, what's been up? Man, how's your daughter?
My girlfriend's pregnant too, I'm 'bout to be a father
If I have a daughter, guess what I'm a call her?
I'ma name her Bonnie

I read about your Uncle Ronnie too, I'm sorry
I had a friend kill himself over some bitch who didn't want him
I know you probably hear this every day, but I'm your biggest fan
I even got the underground shit that you did with Skam
I got a room full of your posters and your pictures, man
I like the shit you did with Rawkus too, that shit was phat
Anyways, I hope you get this, man, hit me back
Just to chat,
truly yours, your biggest fan
This is Stan

Dear OP

I wrote my friend in Texas a letter a few days ago. We are pen pals. However it had been like four months since I last replied, for which I apologized in my letter. I also doodled little pictures on the paper.

Sincerely, the Ratboy Genius

Dear readers,

On mother's day I wrote an appreciation letter to my dear mother for always being there. It was just a small token of gratitude but it moved her and i was so glad to see her happy.

Sincerely yours,
Cat Tit Bingo

Dear OP,

I write a letter by hand every two or three days. In them are written strange and long-winded poems, typically accompanied by an illustration. Violet or red paper stock with white or gold ink makes them more striking.

Then I send them somewhere.

Sometimes I mail them. Usually I leave them stuck here and there, hidden between books or taped to a bench. No follow up... no hint of where they came from.

My little real irl shitposts.

Once I setup a QR code linked to a webpage from which I gathered location data. I was surprised by the letter's journey.

Dearest @wry wrangler,

How does the days treat you, my friend?
It has been many months since our last encounter at the pub, when we had to rough up some rapscallions. Oh! What a fun night that was, seeing their blood streak across the walls as our knives went swish swish swish all lovely like.
How we laughed with glee as their children cried over the corpses.
How hard we laughed when we slaughtered their children in such ways that would make the devil himself blush with fear!
My dear friend, I hope all is well with you and yours.
Sincerely,
@UncleFezziesPantsPuppet

I used to write letters to my cousin & best-friend who lived across the country. At age five, I learned how to address envelopes properly; and we'd get letters from each other about once every couple weeks. After probably ten years of that we just stopped, for no real reason that I can think of.

Mister KylesDickIsOut,

Though your heart my pine for the comforting embrace of your one true love, the antimiscegenation laws you voted for have made it difficult for us to send you the love doll of your dreams.

All apologies, and good luck on your pursuit of degeneracy,

My dear Mister Meaner,

Thank you for your thought-provoking question. In response, it has been several years since I’ve composed a hand-written letter. By my guess I’d say at least 9 years, and that was a thank you letter to a friend who helped me through a bad patch. It is a dying form of correspondence, unfortunately, but as they say, that is progress.

Regards,
Dwight Frye
