When was the pinnacle of web design?

When they were mostly text with the occasional picture and actually had things to say.

When you strip all the effects formatting etc. away from a modern website, often what's left is a few paragraphs of text, if even. Lots of window-dressing but zero content. It's a pretty apt description of what the internet is like now. I feel the vast majority of internet users nowadays wouldn't have the attention span and reading comprehension for these informative websites of old. I'm not sure what's happening but I don't like it.

It truly was a simpler, better time. (:_(

we went form everyone and their mom having their own website to the web being a handful of sites. digitally we are in the you will own nothing and be happy stage. you dont need your own website, you dont need to own your own media, you dont need to own apps and even getting to the point you dont need to own your OS nor even the hardware.
