Hello all,

I am wondering if anyone knows if there is any online sources for data migration in SAP? I find it's really hard to find any meaningful information about the process. I was thinking maybe I need to go to the dark web?

I feel what I find is too mysterious and am looking for more concrete info on how to do a migration from an existing system to a new one

Nostalgia immediately followed by frustration. Wrangling SAP at retard level when something broke between office/warehouse/shipping was a hearty chunk of my daily stress back in 2012-2014 and judging from their current help guides the answer to everything is still "pay someone we trained".

I'll keep an eye out and look through my old shit when I can, it's outdated but there's a slim chance there might be something useful there.

What I don't understand is there is a consultant firm leading the migration but my company has hired various types of SAP staff like functional SAP consultants or developers. Like why aren't the people on my company explaining more what the migration is like? Shouldn't they be making their recommendations? I had a question at a team meeting where there was a functional consultant (from company but on a different team than me) which I honestly think they should be able to answer but they didn't say anything. The question was going to be directed to the consulting firm.

I do wonder if I need to go on the dark web to find manuals or something. Like to me data migration and upgrade shouldn't be so vague as a process. To me you clean up stuff and move it to the new system, make some modifications. It's not rocket science

Is the SAP database schema still all in German? I heard about the consultants at work having to machine translate columns to figure out what the hell anything was. My limited experience with Netweaver is XML goes in, XML comes out and nobody knows how the fuck it works. Netweaver is dying a slow and agonizing death though, all hail S4HANA.

Eitherway SAP is like a billion different products and I don't think you're going to get any information on how to move anything SAP related for free.

Are you migrating from an old SAP version to a new one? If so, there are tools, but I don't know very much about them. If you are migrating to a completely different system, then the data is probably all you care about. If that is the case, creating CDS views of all tables you need might be one option. On the other hand, if you have mountains of historical file extracts from program logic, that can be a much different beast.
