Or just fat washing your whiskey with bacon fat. Get all the smokey flavor you need there, just don't do it in large batches unless you really like it smokey.

I snagged a bottle of Dareringer by Rabbit Hole yesterday on my most recent liquor store crawl. Kentucky bourbon aged in sherry casks. I haven't had the chance to drink it yet but it smells amazing. I also learned that a couple of stores now carry The Famous Grouse, and I no longer have to order it online.
Where do you live where you can’t get grouse? My knowledge of scotches is still rather limited beyond Islays tasting like hydrocarbons, but I do know that’s one of the most common blends.

Evan Williams BnB comes in handles apparently. It was already the best value on the market in fifths…

Any of the tequila snobs have an opinion on Don Julio 1942? My dad had a bottle gifted too him for some reason or another and I wasn’t overly impressed but also not offended. Granted, I know very little about tequila beyond researching a good blanco for margeritas and to mix with tonic when I’m not in the mood for gin. Found it amusing that it’s twice the price of the Chartreuse which would otherwise be the most expensive thing I keep on hand.

To bring it back to whiskey, I tried Old Forrester 100 Proof Rye and still think I like Rittenhouse better. Can’t quite put my finger on why yet. Maybe Brown-Forman’s QC isn’t as good as Heaven Hill’s, or getting something bottled in bond actually does make a difference. Shame the abc store that carries ryes other than Old Overholt was out of Rittenhouse, though the fact that the tag was still on the shelves gives me hope that they’ll get more in.

For those who like Irish, I highly recommend Redbreast 12. May also change the minds of those who typically find Irish boring.

Snagged the last and only bottle of Yellow Rose Rye from my local grocery store. The fact they carried this (or anything else besides JB White and JD Black) is an x files level of anomaly in and on itself. Pretty good stuff, almost worth the 40 something eurobucks it cost.

Anyone here into rum? Imma total dilettante/noob here, my only experiences so far have been with Stroh, Captain Morgan and (once) the unfortunately named Mt. Gay. A friend got me a bottle of Bumbu XO from a slightly less taxed EU country. Way better than any rum I've ever tried, pretty much a steal for 0.7 liters at below 30 bucks. Of course I'm drinking it now like an old school sailor, straight out of the blackened bottle, complete with having a trouble judging how much of it is left.

Any other decent stuff like that? Cause I've switched from whisky to Brandy/cognac strictly due to local availability, and might give my overworked liver at least some variety.

For casual rum I like Kraken, Appleton Estate is also good for budget rum. I haven't tried the more expensive stuff yet though.

Appleton Estate and Flor de Caña are good brands that aren’t hard to find at all. Smith and Cross is also fantastic but I can’t find it anywhere where I live.

I had my first scotch and soda the other day. I usually drink neat, sometimes on the rocks.

But I took some Lagavulin to drink with my father, and thought that since he doesn’t usually do peaty whiskies he might find it too strong. I may be a convert. It adds a really nice subtle edge to the whiskey.

That walnut bitters I used with maple syrup doesn’t work as well with regular sinple syrup. Still drinkable but not as good.

I do the Winston Churchill thing and will put a teaspoon of peaty or blended scotch in with a large glass of club soda. He did it with Jonny Walker Red and Claret.

Love whiskey. A nice peated single malt like a Lagavulin or an Ardbeg hits the spot real good.
Not to say that there's anything wrong with a Talisker or a blended. Neat obviously.

Can't do bourbons. Too sweet I think?
Only one I've liked is Four Roses.
Had a bottle of rye once which was pretty good, but can't remember the name, and I haven't found it since.

Tried a single malt from Tasmania once, which was fucking excellent, but ridiculously expensive.

Don't really drink much whiskey anymore, since I can't have just a few, and it's hard on the body, but every once in a while...

Need to get some more of my nicer whiskey. My supply is running low due to the holiday season and all the pedocows getting jailed. If this keeps up, I'll only have this bottled in bond Evan Williams. That stuff tastes like it was mislabeled flavored whiskey.
