Can I ask a question? Trump’s been president for two years now. He had both senate and congress majority republican for almost the entire time. Why did he wait until after midterm elections to start pushing this wall with the democrats partially controlling things now? Seems counterproductive.
You need to keep passing budgets, it's not a one time deal. Budgets are passed like other congressional acts, majority vote wins, unless president vetos, then it takes 2/3 to overcome.
It's literally equally the democrats and republicans fault. Or, in another sense, it's the voters fault for electing people with utterly incompatible sensibilities to cooperate in running a country. It's not as if the dems haven't been saying they'll resist trump at every turn with every resource at their disposal.
That, to me, is what splits the tie. Trump hasn't been saying "Fuck the democrats, they get nothing, my way or the highway". But the dems have been consistently saying "Trump is illegitimate, we will not work with him, we will resist everything he does"
So, the side that said they will not cooperate is probably the side to blame for the lack of cooperation.
By the way, I encourage people to read the wikipedia article on government shutdowns. Firstly, there's a good chance some assblasted moron put some poorly formatted insults at trump on the top, which are good for a laugh. Then you can see the history of shutdowns in this country, and how they happen.
Basically, the big thing is that congress is not doing their job (also true of repubs under obama) by not having a budget well in advance. They use it as a doomsday clock to score political points, but there's absolutely no reason it has to happen this way.
