Just start killing congressmen and maybe some of them will actually get scared enough to do their job. I mean i'm not saying we should, (don't come for me FBI) but there's a thought....

It is the blame of both congress and the president as to why the government shuts down.

I'm in the camp of both are at fault but the shutdown doesn't effect me in a negative way so honestly I'm all for it staying.

What I laugh about I often need to use the IRS in my job for verifying stuff oh they have no problem getting back to me if it will help them make money.

Just bite down build the fucking wall it's not a lot for budget and they claim it won't work so do it then when it "totally fails" you have oodles of ammo against trump and can gain power from both proving orange man bad but also they reached out. That's not what will happen that's why its fighting over it.

Dems are gonna suffer more from this.

Cant wait to see early mid Feb when the EBT bux are already spent.

Can I ask a question? Trump’s been president for two years now. He had both senate and congress majority republican for almost the entire time. Why did he wait until after midterm elections to start pushing this wall with the democrats partially controlling things now? Seems counterproductive.

You need to keep passing budgets, it's not a one time deal. Budgets are passed like other congressional acts, majority vote wins, unless president vetos, then it takes 2/3 to overcome.

It's literally equally the democrats and republicans fault. Or, in another sense, it's the voters fault for electing people with utterly incompatible sensibilities to cooperate in running a country. It's not as if the dems haven't been saying they'll resist trump at every turn with every resource at their disposal.

That, to me, is what splits the tie. Trump hasn't been saying "Fuck the democrats, they get nothing, my way or the highway". But the dems have been consistently saying "Trump is illegitimate, we will not work with him, we will resist everything he does"

So, the side that said they will not cooperate is probably the side to blame for the lack of cooperation.

By the way, I encourage people to read the wikipedia article on government shutdowns. Firstly, there's a good chance some assblasted moron put some poorly formatted insults at trump on the top, which are good for a laugh. Then you can see the history of shutdowns in this country, and how they happen.

Basically, the big thing is that congress is not doing their job (also true of repubs under obama) by not having a budget well in advance. They use it as a doomsday clock to score political points, but there's absolutely no reason it has to happen this way.

Part of it being the autistic lolcows that think she was the actual winner of 2016, a little over 2 years since election day.

It would cost $45 out of a $44,000 budget to build it. Makes sense and its one piece of keeping the illegals out.

Whenever there's a game of chicken like this I generally regard both as being equally at fault. You can't say "my biggest concern is the poor government workers" when you have the option to help them by giving in but instead of doing so, you just blame the other guy. Admit that the poor government workers are not a bigger concern than your side winning.

i follow us politics pretty closely from elsewhere but i read about it mostly, so don't get to see your people walking around too much. but there's one guy who i have finally got to get a real visual of as he has been on TV a lot recently as one thing i do watch is US talk shows.

chris christie.

fuck me.

i mean, i had heard the jokes......but. fuck me.

the shutdown is the fault of every american for not putting two and two together and figuring out that all you need to do is send that fat fuck down TO BE THE WALL. get him to face mexico too hes a fucking annoying cunt and he likes tequila. he was CHUGGING it on the late show so many fucking birds with one stone.

I was going to say the same thing, but instead, I'll just give you a hardy "Here, here!"

I'm surprised Trump didn't propose to give amnesty to DACA recipients in exchange for the wall funding. There's literally no danger from less than a million kids who abide by the law for over 10 years, and giving them amnesty is just plain good optics by saying "hey we like immigrants who aren't criminals. we'll forgive them because it wasn't their choice coming here but in return we have to strengthen our borders".
Because at this point the Republican's knee-jerk fighting against DACA have made it a partisan issue, instead of stupid shit that needs to be fixed so that we aren't wasting resources hunting down and deporting "illegals" who didn't choose to come to the US and have lived here virtually their entire life. Democrats won't accept a deal like that because they don't want the Great Big Beautiful Slab of Concrete, and Republicans won't except because large sections of their constituency have had it propagandized to them that DACA is Evil Liberal Fascist Communism and will see anyone who endorses it as a traitor.
