Why are burqas all progressive and shit but if you make it white and wear a pointy hat everyone gets mad?

Unless you're talking about Afghanistan under Taliban rule in the 90's, you're probably referring to a niqab.

Outside of Saudi Arabia, a lot of Muslim majority countries find it offensive. I read somewhere that in Indonesia a niqab is seen as very foreign and not acceptable.

I know this is a shitpost question, but as far as the concept of hijab is concerned: choice goes both ways. That is to say, if voluntarily dressing up like a skank is considered "empowering," then so too should the decision to voluntarily cover up be considered "empowering" as well. It might come as a surprise to some, but there genuinely are women out there who choose to wear a hijab, a niqab, or even a burqa. Also, it's often forgotten that the onus to "lower one's gaze" is placed upon both men and women.

Compulsory dress code laws are fucking horrifying tbh, and I will absolutely object to them wherever they are. Imagine if every woman and girl out there above the age of 13 was legally obligated to dress like a whore; the outrage would be omnipresent.
