Why Are Furries Obsessed with Certain Dog Breeds?

Cause those breeds look the coolest? You wouldn't want your badass Gary Stu fursona to look like a pug or chihuahua.

Moot point because artists can stylise their characters to make them look cooler or cuter.

The Tumblrinas love the blobfish despite the fact it's ugly. They've basically tried to make it look less ugly.

Axolotls are also pretty dang ugly,

but then the furries come in (in hindsight, this is islamic content)
furry axolotl.jpg
and then Mojang comes in

and then furries who play Minecraft come in.

I hope that is clear.
I maintain that furries only like certain dog breeds based on how much it's close to the appearance of a wild animal like a wolf.

I don't think tumblrinas associate themselves with blobfish, and axolotl seems to be loved by trannies for some reason, not furries.
And sure, you can stylize anything as anything, but it won't make the original specie cool.

I don't think it's an accident that those are some of the most popular breeds in films/animations where the animals are also anthropomorphized. Furfaggotry is unfortunately an incurable disease and there is no rationality to the pathology once it takes hold. There is no recovery. The best alternative is cleansing hellfire.
Also they need to like animas movies/media like (wolves tigers stuff like that) How much platypus furriers you seen?

My armchair psycho-analysis of it is that the furry universe that these imaginary characters inhabit has a very narrow range of permissible emotions; the popular breeds are those most associated with them. Furry characters, from anything I've seen that diffuses out of their online spheres, are either peppy, happy, and 'friendly' or aggressive and 'alpha.' German shepherds, Labradors, and huskies all fit in those temperaments. Pugs, great Danes, Chihuahuas aren't common because they don't have those associations.

I think it's mostly just that these are just majestic and cool looking breeds. The concept of charismatic megafauna might go some way to explaining it.

As to why furries fixate on certain kinds of animals and not others (animals like monkeys, elephants, fish, whales), I think it's just that those animals look more 'awkward' to human eyes, or have strong stereotypes associated with them that most furries don't identify with (e.g. elephants are old and wise.)

They seem to like a lot of dogs that are more wolf-like in features. Yet few of them seem to be wolves. Although they'll be foxes.

A mixture of exposure in movies where the animals talk or are more anthropomorphic and the assumed personality that get projected on certain breeds. Best example is you'll never see a german shepard furfag not be in some sort of position of power.

German shepherds are also depicted as intelligent. Something furfags tend not to be. Or else they'd learn to keep their weird fetish underground. Then again, their stupidity makes it easier to nab the dogfuckers.

popularity and representation in media.

Its the same reason why most otherkin are wolfkin- wolves are possibly up there as the most represented breed in media- good or bad- it doesn't matter. So no wonder why people would relate more commonly to the most represented animal in media, especially one that's typically represented as a loner, cool or edgier- shot furries and otherkin like to think they relate to.

if cats were mans best friend instead you'd see more furries be obsessed with them more so than dogs.

As to why specific breeds/ again, the ones that are considered most wolf like.
Huskies being number one. Not only are they just generally a popular dog breed because of how chaotic, energetic and 'human like' in their expressions and the way they like to 'talk bak' to humans when they don't get their way, just look at them- who doesn't loe a dog that's both loveable and goofy? they are also one of the closest breeds to wolves.

also Most furries' fursonas boil down to a few categories

cool and edgy
a fair representation of themselves (so relating animal characteristics, tropes and stereotypes to their own being/just a mesh of their favourite things together like favourite animal/color/outfits...)
it just looks nice/to lazy to draw my own I'll just buy a character
Im lewd on main and I'm going to make it your fucking problem.

Huskies, collies, German Shepherds and Wolves can fit all these categories

If you can draw a wolf and a dog as a furry artist that's like 50% of your income.
