Why are podcasts still called "podcasts"?

The etymology of the word "podcast" is that its a portmanteau of the words iPod and broadcast. It originated in 2004 and probably made sense back when it was first thought of as iPods were relatively new. Now in 2022 the iPod has been discontinued which kinds of makes the term "podcast" dated. Maybe something like "audiocast "could be used which would keep the "cast" part of the word while also not making it dated when some piece of tech is no longer around.

"Record" can be synonymous with "phonograph," but "record" is also more broadly any transcription of information. See "medical records" or "arrest record." As a verb it just means to transcribe information
