This has always creeped me out, even when I myself was a teen. Grown men preferring girls that look like 12-13 year olds who haven't fully gone through puberty yet. It's obviously somewhat close to pedophilia, but I think this is its own distinct thing. These seem like the kind of guys who have spiraled down the anime and hentai rabbit hole far enough to end up in this place where they are more attracted to 2D girls than 3D.

Also virgins obviously. It seems clear to me when looking at hentai that most of the artists (and fans) are complete virgins. Just so many unrealistic aspects of the characterization and sex. It's not to say porn has to be perfectly realistic, but when you have a foundation of firsthand knowledge and experience, you aren't as drawn to this obviously fake stuff. It's just harder to ignore and you want more realistic things.

I think the idea of a real woman intimidates the hell out of them, so they want a naïve young girl who won't realize how inept they are at physical intimacy.

I think it's mostly about control and their own fear of death/aging. This is why so many career pedos are the rich and often unaccountable Goldberg types, ala Epstein. I used to theorize that pedophiles have a crossing in the brain between the paternal and romantic love impulses, but as I’ve learned more about them that seems insufficient because pedophiles are very often genuinely malicious and evil people.

When I was in high school, almost every single girl had the DDLG kink.
