Christmas is genuinely one of the comfiest and most cheerful times of the year. As a kid, you like it because of the presents and time off of school. But as you age, the fuzziness and tangible warmth of getting together with the ones you love and exchanging gifts, eating a nice dinner, enjoying the company of one another without the stress of work or similar obligations bogging it down makes the holiday incredibly pleasant. I really think there’s just something in a lot of people’s brains that can’t cope with excess optimism and happiness. Some people are just eternally miserable by nature.

I think the emphasis on family is the biggest factor, though. Christmas now has a heavy focus on consumerism and material goods, which theoretically makes it a perfect holiday to market to the soulless bugmen of the world, but the fact that the holiday is about coming together with your friends and especially family to give gifts means the worst kind of joyless, empty-eyed consumer is reminded of their lack of humanity and many of them cannot tolerate that.

There’s a huge push against loving and appreciating your family from TPTB, especially right now with all the trans shit. It’s genuinely sad to see people completely reject the privilege of a loving, welcoming family in favor of Discord and Twitter users to circlejerk with, but in the end it can’t be helped. Remember, as long as you focus on strengthening and cherishing the familial relationships you have, their faggy demoralization tactics won’t work on you. At least, that’s how I see it.
