Topic of Title should kinda be self Explanatory.

But Ive just been reading about Assburgers/ Autism a bit more, and I find it all kind of puzzling. Like what is it? What causes it? There is no real tangible mechanism for it like other disorders ( fragile X and downs= extra chromosome).

Could it be chemically related and an absence of bacteria? Idk...

Part of me wonders, if there is a God why he would make autistic individuals. Im not talking about aspies and high functionings, who despite their problems have the means to get along reasonably ok..

Im talking about the low functionally autistic, the kind who would have just been warehoused in an institution in the 50s. Like is it God's will that they just be sort of glassy eyed and unable to communicate and relate to the world around them? Or never be able to read or interact with other human beings or live independently? I know there is much money spent into helping autistics of that level succeed, yet it often does little good.

Im sorry if I sound harsh or cruel in my descriptions. But for a service project this summer I volunteered with an autistic group of young people ( basically field trips for them since they cant form actual friendships much of the time.) And one or two of them were just glassy eyed and silent apart from squeaks and grunts and a few words here and there..

So to any theoligans of any kind? What is God's deal? What does he mean by hobbling certain group of people way worse than most others? A group that suffered intolerably in every age before the 1970s at most. Any ideas... sigh....

Not going to even address the God portion of it because I refuse to believe there is a single human being that does not have worth, but as for this.

Being an Aspie myself, the most I can tell is that the brain is literally just wired differently. For no discernible reason (though autism is genetic, and two people with autistic-like symptoms are more likely to produce an autistic child - my dad and my maternal grandparents have some Aspie symptoms, and so does one of my maternal cousins), but hey. It's literally just a different way of looking at and thinking about things than a normal person, and therefore different reactions to things, as far as I'm concerned.

Im so sorry... Altissimo Im sure your wonderful..

Autism is just something I want to understand more and learn more about.

Of course I believe every single person is worthwhile and has things to offer. I only asked why some people ( made in image and likeness of god) were given so many tough challaenges, some of which, depending on the individual may well be insurmountable? I just wonder these things sometimes.

Edit: Im a kind loving humanist who wants the best for everyone. I am not a villainous autistiophobe I promise you.

With all due respect to your religious beliefs, you might as well ask why anyone suffers. Not being religious myself, I'm not suited to answer your question from a theological standpoint, but I will say that you shouldn't spend too much time or energy distressing over it. Taking a proactive approach, like volunteering, is quite admirable and you should keep that up. Even if we don't know why there's so much suffering in the world, the least we can do is make it a little easier for others.

With all due respect there's significantly worse disorders than autism. If there is a God I have no idea what his motivations are, but this gets into a "case against evil" debate which is really obtuse.

Right now the cause of autism is undetermined, the reigning theory that I'm aware about is that it is genetic. There's also a variety of other theories you can just Google.

I needed a pick me up from my growing cynicism. (:_(
