Why can’t I shoot people in my dreams?

Every time I try to shoot someone in a dream of mine they always just get minorly injured, even if I shoot them in the head. But they can kill me just fine.

For some reason my dream gun usually malfunctions by the slide/forend coming off. No idea what that's about.
