why cant our writers come up with better characters?

recently talked to a new guy at work:

it's like the writers arnt even trying anymore. this character type has become way too much of a trope. why cant the writers come up with better characters?

Writing good characters comes from lived experience. Being terminally online stifles living.

There are no writers, it's all procedurally generated.

If you don't believe me, just drive for a long time. Doesn't matter where. You'll start to notice the same structures get generated over and over again in different biomes, like in Minecraft.

Don't know, that sounds more interesting than a lot of other people, in particular when you factor he's into programming, disregard anime.

That's a great topic actually, and it can/usually involves several disciplines such as mathematics, statistics, critical thinking & problem solving, "programming thinking", creativity, etc. If you're into that, the conversation will be more deep and interesting than hearing what plants they have in their garden, or what their ex did one time.
