Why did Rambo become a franchise?

Besides Rambo 1. Rambo 4 is my next favorite.

Mainly cause of how real it was about these shithole 3rd world countries and how people think they can change them with "kindness".

Is Rambo 4 the one where he completely dissolves a guy with a 50cal?

Yup. Not just one guy either, he completely decimates a platoon of other soldiers as well.

I've certainly got nothing against violence, but for me 4 skirted the line of going too far, appropriately enough like the newer MK games. It is still a good film and the second best of the sequels, but the mean spirited nature means I haven't really been compelled to watch it again. Last Blood was a real let down, far too short and with villains who's character was so thin they were practically invisible. A missed opportunity as it felt like a cash grab rather than the definitive closing of his character arc.

Also the uncomfortable fact the Rambo is always the poster boy of being pointed at the "Shitheel country who didn't bribe the Chinks or Americans to look the other away" when they get caught violating human rights. We then did it with the Cartels because we want our revenge fantasy over the drug dealing spics
