Why do centrists exist? - Do they lack intrinsic morals?

Centrist are less about having their own individual opinions, and just value a relative centrism in regards to society in an almost tribal way where they hope to survive by having no consistent convictions. For example, a lot of people who had no issue with BLM rioting, but thought everyone should be in harsh lockdown a week before.

Are they just weak and going with the tribe?

Being a centrist means you can easily piss off whoever you want to by just leaning slightly opposed to whatever they want.

I'm fairly centrist (not for the sake of being centrist tho) and I had some mates who got hard into lefty politics. Like, so hard that it became practically a cult of "you're either with us or against us". One of them was even so willing to try to 1-up people that he tried to say people's hatred of "Cuties" was hypocritical and just "the right involving themselves in cancel culture".

I'm not a contrarian for the sake of being a contrarian either. But when someone will fucking explode the second you even say something they might not agree with, then I can't help myself but light the fuse.

I forgot to say in my original post that I’m about 100x more worried about ideologues than I am about centrists. Ideologues of all kinds tend to be emotionally disturbed brainlets who can’t engage in a conversation without LARPing like they’re on a debate stage. Way more insufferable than even the most spineless centrist

Being bound to an ideology and being a centrist are two different things: you're allowed to be anti-semetic while not supporting the NSDAP and: you can be in favor of workers rights without being a dang dirty social democrat.

But most centrists are bound to society, especially when you start speaking to people in think tanks and positions of power. It doesn't particularly matter if you privately support workers rights if you publicly criticize them, and work against their implementation.
