why do fags talk weird

Most of the gay men I know of that have that exact accent all hail from California. If I had to theorize a reason, it's most likely due to the regional dialect and typical "valley girl" accent most Hollywood celebs and upper-middle class Californians have. It might be a variant of that, coupled with the fact that they watch too many chick-flicks and think every person of the feminine persuasion talks that specific way. They also don't go outside much.

i know i worded this question in a spergy way but it was posted because there’s this gay dude I was just talking to at work that feels the need to do this awful voice constantly even when it’s just me and him like I get it if you want to do it around the women and be their token gay friend pet but do you really have to do it to me too

There's this dude on the radio station my mom listens to who talks like this because he wants to be the quirky gay friend of the female host so I felt that.

I feel like this is the closest answer here. The "gay lisp" valley girl sound seems almost universal now, but we can theorize that gay men (at least before the popularization of straight passing gay men) would mimic female aesthetics and also speech, lingo, and mannerisms.

Every gay community around the globe has their own variant of gay speak and gay lingo that is both an appropriation of chatty female speech with self-developing slang. For more serious info about gay lingo, looking up the wikipedia article on "Polari" is a decent place to start

But yeah TL;DR - fags talk weird because they're trying to imitate women in all the screechy ways possible

What I want to know is why many gays and lesbians feel the need to maintain something of a gender dynamic in a relationship when they're both the same sex? Often at least one gay man in a couple will be more feminine and/or submissive. You also have so many lesbian couples where one is butch and the other acts typically feminine. What's the need for gay people to approximate straight relationships?

Without any scientific info to back this up, I believe this is because of the effect that gender norms have on our society for over thousands of years. In romantic partners, there is a man and a woman, and for the most part they've also been a more dominant/providing/masculine role and a submissive/nurturing/feminine role. Once again, there are outliers (now more than ever) but this often is the trend in romantic-sexual relationships.

Hence, gay or lesbian couples will follow that trend--consciously or subconsciously--where one fits into one role, and one the other.

Another possible explanation is connected to what I replied in my first comment insofar as gay men imitate women and women culture (and butch lesbians imitating men and male culture). Hence in this case, gay "sissy(?)" men would want to feel pretty and cared for and "within the strong arms of their man" (and the same also occurs with lesbian dynamics).

And finally, another possible explanation (that is closely related to the above) is that it's a kink thing. It's sexy, turns them on, whatnot. Rather simple to understand.

For the most part in this day and age where LGBT relations are more common, we now have more "straight passing" couples that you can see are both "Male-male" dynamics or "female-female" dynamics.

There could still be within there the tropes we know with gay people, but for the most part, its a milquetoast, boring, and unassuming relationship, but between two people of the same gender.
