Why do I talk to my dog with a silly voice?

Because tone of voice is all that matters.
That's a nice thing about animals, you can say horrendous things to them but so long as you do so in an affectionate manner they'll like it.

My personal favorite is telling them they're horrible, awful creatures, and that one day my patience is going to run out and I'll sell them off to an Asian wet market.

Because you can't get upset at a good dog and are always smiling, so naturally you get a bit silly because the dog loves hearing your voice and never judges you.

Because they like there humans to be happy and if I can make the silly loveable things happy I will.

They like hearing us be goofy and silly. If we’re talking goofy and silly to them, they know we’re happy and they won.

Dogs are pretty awesome that way.

I don't know about dogs, but I know about cats:

Cats don't meow to other cats, but they meow to humans. They talk to us in a silly voice, so it's just a case of quid pro quo if you go high-pitched and call your cat a fuzzybutt.
