This all goes back to white guilt, in post new-leftist thought whites are perpetually at fault and always holding guilt. They love Palestine because in their eyes this case clearly has an oppressor/oppressed dynamic along with their other perceptions of western/eastern, colonizer/native, and white/colored where the Palestinians are clearly in all the right categories and the Israelis are in the wrong ones. It's why they don't give too much of a shit about similar situations in Burma, China, or name a Muslim or African country. They have conflicts or situations that are quite similar, or where the situation is more bleak for the oppressed group, but don't quite hit all of those things going for them. Ignore the fact that many Jews are darker skinned (especially Sephardic and Mizrahi) than Palestinians or any other nuances because they really can't think beyond anything that won't fit in the Opposing Viewpoints books they were given in high school social studies classes.
