Why do people choose to live in hurricane zones?

Because outside of the occasional really bad storm in the late summer/early fall it's a tropical paradise?
This is like asking why anyone decided to farm/ranch in Tornado Alley, or live near the Cascade mountains along the Ring of Fire. Or anywhere along the San Andreas fault.
Natural disasters are a fact of life pretty much everywhere. Even New England gets absolutely swamped by nor'easters from time to time.
