Why Do People Go To The Far Left And Far Right?

Recently, I've been thinking about why exactly does the political extreme tend to attract the same people.

With the far left, you usually see females who are rabid feminists or defenders of the "oppressed".
With the far right, you usually see young or middle aged men espousing reactionary views about "traditional" values, nationalism or incel tier takes.

And I've come up with ideas as to why.

Far left
The people who are part of the far left tend to always come to the defense of what they see as oppressed peoples. Countless examples include defending black people when blacks themselves don't get offended, as well as calling something someone said "trans-phobic" "fat-phobic" "racist" and so forth.
I believe this is due to their obsession with their self image. They want to be seen as good people, standing up for something but something not too difficult. This is why they get offended and get all high and mighty over petty things. They'll only concern themselves with issues that are popular, nothing which will not give them clout. This may be why you see these people on twitter more than in the real world.

Far right
The people who are part of the far right tend to be either young men or middle aged men. These people often talk of their distaste for current society and feel alienated by it. These people will talk about wanting to return to old ways, a return to nationalism, a return to traditional gender roles, a return to religion and sometimes outright imperialism, fascism or monarchy. Examples such as Keith Woods, Endevour, Morgoths Review, Nick Fuentes and Richard Spencer

I believe that this is due to the ideas associated with the far right being very male orientated. It attracts young men, who in real life are insecure about themselves as a means to show how much of a "man" they are. Watching Endevour, he will talk of fighting for people like Napoleon and war in general as if its a glorious thing to do, never thinking they could be the person who is shot dead first doing nothing of note. Notice that they have never seen combat or what war actually is. Their views are similar to those of young men off to war, before seeing it firsthand.

Their view of the past is skewed or glorified as if there was no reason for past ideas to be discarded. Indeed, nationalism or other ideas these people follow may sound intriguing when people are shamed to be proud of their country in this day and age, but not to the extent these people do. Nationalism and patriotism is indeed a good thing, but not if taken to an extreme.

There are also middle aged men in the movement. These are 30-40 year olds who are likely single and also insecure over themselves. They will make themselves look "macho" , never show their faces and seem to have tantrums at any slight issue as a blight on society. They wish for traditional male dominant societies, and never see any issues with themselves. They pride themselves as being "alpha males" and look down on "betas" when in reality they aren't at all what they talk of. A normal man would not be trying so hard to show they are "manly".
In many ways, it is akin to what CS Lewis was talking about. While he talked about adults acting really grown up, people in the far right use it to act very manly.
A normal man would not flex or go on about how "manly" or "strong" he is, they would be secure enough already to not require the acceptance of others.

So why is this?

Youth have not yet found their way in the world and are developing who they are. This is why the political extreme attracts them. It gives them an identity, a purpose, a way to act "good" or heroic and gives them a enemy.

The political extreme also allows for the socially inept or those who have been left out in society to hide their insecurities or failings to create an image of themselves which is not true.

The far left give people a chance to look after the weak.
The far right give people a chance to look very "manly" or "strong".

It may also be that the political extreme is a place for both genders to be the perfect version of that gender.
Women tend to be caring towards others.
The ideal man is seen as strong, independent and shows little emotion.

So what do you think?
What do you think is the reason people go to the political extreme?
Is it for the reasons I have given or something different?

Echo chambers with feedback loops that re-inforce and reward ever more extreme opinions. Every group that insulates itself against exposure to contradictory/disagreeable information eventually shifts to an extreme version of what it started as.

Also, most people have a binary "light vs. dark / good vs. evil" perspective, where the world is a battlefield and the only option is war.

Most people don't build their identity around political affiliations. The extremes do, and even worse, they become tribal and see any not a part of their group as the enemy.

I think the 'bleeding heart left' and 'overly macho right' ideas are overly simplified. Antifa tries to act tough and they are lefty cock suckers. Richard Spencer is a literal faggot (listen to him talk) and he is a white nationalist and not very masculine in my opinion. Those political ideals value certain traits and traditions. Lefties think's fine to get pink hair and be gay, right wing thinks men should be traditional image -- smoke cigars, shoot guns, and bang puss.

Interesting thought, you know they did a study and found you can usually identify political leanings on appearance alone?

Autism.

Well, probably not all, but I'd bet if you analyzed extremism brains you'd find similar structures and similar disorders shared between the most hardcore. I said autism mostly because that's what a number of basement dwelling activist who are hardcore have.

Some just need a group that accepts ANYONE. Extremist groups are great as the best virtue in those groups is not being charismatic, friendly, pretty, intelligent, etc. but passionately parroting a message. This means as long as you believe and preach and fight for the doctorine, your terrible personality will be looked over because you say the right words. I'd imagine groups like those used to be different church denominations in the USA, but ever since the decline in importance (thus decline in social group power) people who need something to belong to turn to politics. It wouldn't surprise me if some of these people would have been hardcore bible thumpers back in the day.

If you only move a little either way you might still hit a pole or something falling will still hit you but not be as damaging.

You know that old hot or not site? Politics is kinda like that. You can vote someone's attractiveness from 1-10. If someone's average attractiveness is between 4-6 and you vote 5, it has less influence on the average number than if you pick either 1 or 10.

If you're not pushing the overton window, you're not making political difference. Of course I speak about the opinion-making part of politics. There's a lot more to it. But since most people are only involved with the opinionmaking, that is sufficient.

Political polarization is the result of societal alienation. They hate modern times (as they should), so they want to deracinate the entire foundation of these modern times and establish something prosperous and beautiful. It is good and holy. (just don't try and make it too much of an escape fantasy).
Hatred, what else?
It's the fluoride in the water and the subliminal pedophilia on the YouTube.

When someone is new to the political sphere and begin developing opinions, they are often ostracized by the side they know the least about. Fear is a powerful motivator and the comfort of the known makes an easy retreat into the darkness of ignorance. That comfort may be naturally into the arms of a liberal, conservative family, friends, university mates, etc. to fall back on. In all honestly, who can blame a kid? Stepping back and re-assessing is part of the process.

From the Tao Te Ching: The generals have a saying: "Rather than make the first move it is better to wait and see. Rather than advance an inch it is better to retreat a yard."

E.g.
Me: I generally love mankind, including gay people.
Him: Faggot!
Me: Don't like that kind of person, goes further left

or

Me: I wish I could afford a house like my grandpa at 20 years old who got married and had kids
Her: Fucking masochistic male chauvinist
Me: What the fuck, goes further right

Lucky for me, I love lesbian chauvinists with strap-on cocks who want to start a family and there's nothing anyone can do about it. ♥ Fuck my ass and call me Lucy.

I don't think there's really any one-size fits all answer to the question. There's a number of factors that can push someone to one extreme or another, and I think which factors play the biggest role in that depends largely on the person. I also think what draws someone into an ideology, what keeps them entrenched in an ideology, and why they think they follow an ideology are often three different things.
