Clearly the second one. One of the few times Chris focuses on "Show, don't Tell." Compare the suspense of Chris's page to the wall of text above.

I was actually pondering making a "Positive Aspects of Sonichu" thread, but I guess this will do.

While Chris is so beholden to Pokémon and Sonic for the main characters of Sonichu, what little creativity there is goes to his villains. For example, Count Graduon.
Sure, his design was limited by ModNation Racers, but this version of Graduon actually looks original and like he could win in a fight against most of Sonichu's cast. Additionally, characters like MLW have motivation and drive, compare to the "Let's abandon our efforts to get Crystal out of the Dark Mirror to fuck around at a beach."

Lastly, Chris's characters seem more open minded than he does. Wild has no qualms about entering CWCville's version of an interracial relationship, on which Chris's thought are...well documented. And we all know how Magi-Chan's psychic surveillance has gone...

Okay, that page of Sonichu I picked at random, but my point still stands: with the Sonic comics, you have a concrete understanding of what's going on, speech bubbles have their own panels to occupy and like Son of Big Boss said, the Archie Sonic characters don't look like they were drawn by a three-year-old. Speaking of, the Archie Sonic characters aren't one note and Mary Sueish, despite (most of) the fandom saying otherwise, unlike the Sonichu characters.

Well to be fair, nobody really hates it.
But for a lot of folk, I'd say it's the disparity between it's quality and it's creators opinion of it. Chris still introduces himself as the creator of it as if it really means something and the person's naturally heard of it.

But for me personally, it's the fact that it's so half-assed and there's absolutely no forward planning whatsoever. What you're looking at is literally an image dump of what was floating through Chris' head at that moment. Mistakes are not corrected and nothing's redone because that would require effort.

For something that he's so proud of, it's remarkable how little effort he actually put into it.

It has a certain appeal in being outsider art--CWC has no idea of the formal rules of storytelling and actively defies what he does know, e.g. "heroes have to work for their victories" and "the audience should be left in suspense to build interest." But they are definitely terrible comics, no doubt about that. The climactic volume is particularly hard to get through because of how unilaterally awful the heroes act and how effortlessly CWC stomps his opposition.

Writing on the seat of your pants CAN work. It just requires a lot of effort, consistency and hard work.

Dragon Ball was written like this, with just editor supervision, and aside from some plotholes and minor inconcistencies it's pretty good.

As for Chris? I think there's no way he can make it work.

The comic itself is actually a creepy sci-fi political thriller if you read it the right way. A mentally ill dictator enforcing his insane rule against a town he's held hostage with the aid of his weird mutant monster army? It's like Dr. Moreau mixed with 1984.
Back in the 90's in China they used to hand out these little comics to small children in schools that were drawn in a very juvenile art style and they would be about anything from "Drugs are bad" and"Stay out of gangs" to "The military and police are your friends and you should tell them if someone you know is doing something 'bad'" and "Mao Zedong was the greatest man ever and the father of our nation and you should love him", in a way Sonichu always kind of reminded me of those.

I don't really hate it. I liked it since it's unintentionally hilarious and honestly compared with the typical DeviantArt shit, Chris's comics are better to look at compared with these.

The concept or Chris's execution? The concept because it's lazy and combines two fanbases invaded by autists. Chris's execution because it has lazy writing, Mary Sue's out the ass, sexism, homophobia, the writing of a 3 year old and terrible drawing.

The lack of planning is the worst aspect of Sonichu. When he does plan ahead, the only real signs of this are the bizarre spoilers he gives. If memory serves, the did this with the void thing. Chris was trapped in some kind of void, from which escape would be difficult, and he actually has comic Chris close the issue by pointing out that he'll be getting out of in the next episode. Shitty art aside, he might salvage something if he were willing to actually write the story before he took out his marker pens.

Even better, write bios for his characters. What makes Sonichu Sonichu? What motivates Bubbles and in what kind of framework are her decisions made? How will Rosechu react to events, and how will changes in her character affect those around her. How much can they bend before they become someone very different? This is how interesting and consistent characters are made. Despite being the basis of his planned career, Sonichu manages to combine the art quality of pre-school with the writing quality of furry porn.

For me it's not really about Sonichu or the hedgehogs it's about getting a view into Chris's psyche, at the time he seemed to write Sonichu as a way to vent, be it being angry at trolls or coping with the death of Patty his dog.

Every mean post about Sonichu is actually sarcastic; We actually think it's one of the greatest tales ever written.
Wait, ya'll weren't being sarcastic?
Oh.

Hate isn't the right word. If I hated Sonichu would I have written about it (three times)?

Look at the 2003 movie The Room. The plot is cliché and weak, the subplots make little sense, and the characters are about as interesting as a jar of clean pennies. It's so bad it has a charm to it. We're drawn to it, we don't hate it, we actually enjoy it. Sonichu is the same thing, it's entertaining and that's why we like it.
Another weird charm that Sonichu has is you can let your imagination run wild with fanfics or comics and still have it fit into the Sonichu lore. Wanna write a story about Crystal in the Dark Mirror Realm? Go for it. Wanna redo the comic but have it be Rosechu's side of the story? Nobody's stopping you. What about Sarah's pink haired sister? Elaborate!
So yeah, a "so bad it's good" charm with the ability for the reader to fill in the blanks with whatever they want. Not really something you hate.
Sonichu's been dead for 5 years now, and yet we have a board still talking about it and expanding on it's universe, which is something you don't even do with shows you like and think are good. When was the last time you talked about the show Sliders? Probably not in years. If we truly hated Sonichu this board would've died years ago.

It's hard to hate Sonichu by virtue of it being so strange. It's like something a child made: it's obviously terrible, but you can't bring yourself to really hate it. It's awfulness is just too fascinating for mere derision. It requires analysis and deep contemplation to be fully understood.

I don't hate Sonichu. Yes, it's badly-drawn, badly-written, unoriginal and often expresses rather vile opinions, but on the other hand it's written by one of the strangest people ever to come into the public eye. He's set his mindscape down on paper. As an actual comic, yes, it's worthless. But as a piece of outsider art, it's unique.

Why I hate Sonichu?
2. Chris can't make an original script and takes things from movies and tv shows. Plus he draws his ideas as final draft.

Certainly needed someone to 'guide' him.

3. No one cared about Pokemon anatomy and how they have sex.
Children certainly don't (or has innocence gone away lately)!

5. He keeps making new characters and never uses them again.
Scotpalazzo and Zapina deserved better!

7. He spoils his own comics.
Certainly doesn't like tension/ambiguity.

9. He thinks his art is at a professional level. he knows for a fact people draw better then he can.
And I'm sure he uses his 'tism to blame that.

12. The tools he uses to draw are for children.

Trust me, I can go on forever.
We all could!

Yep, CWCville's no different from Chongqing

Certainly writing it down first, or coming up with a plot before doing anything else would've helped him out greatly.

In other words, he really should've done a 'bible' of sorts to draft all this out.

Despite being the basis of his planned career, Sonichu manages to combine the art quality of pre-school with the writing quality of furry porn.
The worst nightmare for anyone to see!

In some way, that's probably the best way to view Sonichu itself. Outsider art has a tendency of finding an audience one way or another.

I'd dare to say that few people, if anyone, hold genuine contempt for Sonichu, much like how few people, if anyone, hold chris in actual contempt, A-logs, Chris' assault victims, and molested galpals aside. Infact, i'd go so far as to say that the comics are much like chris. They're ugly, incoherent, rascist, sexist, jingoist, incredibly inane save for short bouts of madness, exist within their own universe, niether have a spine, and we keep wanting more

Ech, I dunno... a talking hedgehog? Seems a bit far-fetched.

Seriously though, the comics are almost unreadable, and Chris is convinced they're the greatest thing since sliced bread. The only real value of the comics is that they provide insight into Chris's... exceptional mind.
