The redditors in ukraine who keep doxing their location in a warzone with GPS coordinate laced photos has got me doing some of that late night thunk provoking

What's the point behind photo GPS metadata enabled by default on a lot of phones? I wanna share cat pics here but I don't trust you niggers to not send me pizzas nor do I trust a meta data scrubber to do its job properly

Fuck you google let me post cat pics

Its nice to know where a picture was taken if you're on vacation or out somewhere. For example, if you are taking photos of an old family property and want to know which part of the property the waterfall/rock/landmark was taken. Same with hiking. You can show where a waterfall or cliff is on the trail. iirc, facebook used to use it.
This feature can be disabled easily on android and doesn't work if your GPS isn't active.

The innocuous answer is have you ever listened to two old people start a 45 minute argument over exactly where a photo was taken and when? The boomers that came up with geolocation tags in pictures definitely have.

The cynical answer is because they can and they know it's data that will be worth something somewhere to someone for some reason.

I've posted pics of my kids with their faces MS painted out that were sure to dox me according to the concern trolls. Number one is resize all pics. Even without geotagging resolution can narrow down the device you are using to take the pic. Number two is crop crop crop. If it doesn't need to be in the pic don't include it. Number three is right click properties-details-Remove properties and personal information-create a copy with all possible properties removed-ok. Only post the pic "Sandy Cat is a Child Raping Faggot (Copy).jpg" and you will be fine.
