I watch him / follow posts about him because he's an 'interesting' person.

He's also a case study in how to improve your own life and that coming up with a thousand excuses about why you can't do XYZ to improve is a pretty bad thing to use in life.

I've done stuff to change my own life in terms of diet/fitness and most of all finance. Finance and debt are probably the biggest lesson to take home from Phil. You can live it up for a while, but when the crows come home to roost, you're going to be living your life by your banks terms.

He's been a real inspiration to me tbh. Now whenever I'm faced with a choice, I think to myself "what would DSP do?" and then I pick the opposite. Hasn't failed yet.

I only watch him via freedomchat, he is unbearable if there is no chat that makes fun out of him. I was quite lucky that I passed a lot of his extremely boring moments but managed to see his Persona 3 ragequit, the fake engagement ring incident and him failing to use the Playstation VR.

At no point would I watch Phil for Phil himself, since he is a black hole of entertainment.

I don't watch much of his stream footage unless it's being hosted by someone else. Ever since DSP got chat to hold his hand through games there really is no reason to watch. I think the Twitchcon stream was the only one I sat most of the way through because he was trying so hard to ignore all the shit he was getting. It was so fake and his fans that normally say "WE LIKE PHIL BECAUSE HE'S REAL" were suddenly saying "Yes, of course he's being nicer. It's a good business move". The more I watch this thing the more it seems like it's really just findom with 10 more extra steps and no women involved.

I don't; I just watch the occasional video from David Davidson or Vault Boy. I think I might just hang myself if I had to sit down and watch a full vlog or prestream of his.

I have no idea how James or Neger manage to watch his streams without wanting to suck start a shotgun out of the sheer boredom his playthroughs have become. Or having to listen to him drone on about how he needs your money. You guys are the real MVPs though for letting us know the dumb shit he says during those streams :heart-full:

I used to watch for teh drama...something to watch in the evening to wind down after dinner...now i watch because i made friends in Freedom chat.

Phil is a love to hate type person...hate is a strong word but ya know what i mean

My only real experience with Phil are the archives of the dumb shit he's said on stream and done in games. I've tried watching actual videos and streams, multiple times, and can feel my life and my will to play whatever game he's playing just slowly get sapped from me.

I find him fascinating, though, because this is a person who has been handed multiple golden opportunities throughout his "career", and has managed to squander every last one, to the point it's not a matter of "if" he'll squander the next opportunity presented to him, but when. He's the ultimate case study on how not to have a "career" reliant on the Internet, and how not to cultivate a fan base.

His video game playthroughs died a long time ago, THYDP just feels forced since 2015. The drama surrounding DSP is the juicy part. The party isn't going to end, there's bound to be more :autism: and drama yet to come. 2017 has been surprise after surprise from Machinima firing to Leanna breaking up with him.

People said DSP's 'youtube career' would end in 2013/2014, but these people and their :autism: keep him going.

Phil is one of the most interesting cows ever, first off he has a large amount of content, far more than most other cows (there are exceptions to this, like Chris Chan for example)
Second is how incompetent he is at nearly everything. Gaming, having a career as a streamer, relationships, cooking, logic, everything.
Third is his attitude: he is incredibly entitled, prone to raging, and is overall a major manchild.
A somewhat minor meme back in 2013 was that DSP was the CWC of the Let's Play community.
I think that's the best way to describe him. He isn't the next Chris Chan, but it's more like he's a bizarro version or alternate version of him: what if CWC was a let's player and wasn't autistic? Part of this is what makes Phil so interesting to study.

@Pointandlaugh
Nah, his video game playthroughs can still be amazingly terrible, the problem is his overrelying on stream chat/strategy guides and most modern games being way too fucking easy. (Probably the latter, more so than the former, believe it or not, is the reason why TIHYDPs have gone downhill. At least half of what makes a TIHYDP great is the playthrough itself)
His commentary though definitely has lost it's quality (except when he's raging and making excuses) mostly because he has become depressed over the years. I wouldn't say 2015, I would say last year is when you can tell he became more depressed (notice his commentary in the Scarface playthrough. Probably one of the earliest examples of him being quiet as fuck for minutes on end)

The same reason Jane Goodall watched the chimps, except her chimps were smart and learned from error.

Chris stopped producing at that point. Phil streams everyday and has a perfect storm of entertaining personality disorders.
