Why does adding "in minecraft" to the end of your sentences make whatever you just said legal?

The idea is creating plausible deniability to lessen the criminal implications of what you’ve said (e.g. “I want to bomb the White House…with a TNT block in Minecraft.”) If dragged to court, you could make the argument that you were talking about the video game. The part where this breaks down though is the context in which your criminal threat was uttered (e.g. “I fucking hate Trump so much. This orange nigger is going to tear our economy apart if he’s allowed to keep doing this tariff bullshit. I want to bomb the White House…with a TNT block in Minecraft. In Minecraft guys, not trying to get in trouble lol!) A reasonable person can see what’s actually going on here and it’s highly unlikely that the person saying this is going to be live streaming himself playing minecraft and looking at a replica of the White House in game to actually sell what he’s saying.

The caveat being that it has to be in the same line. That's how the one Floridian 4chan user got arrested. "I want to kill X deupty." "In Minecraft." Not, "I want to kill X deputy in Minecraft."

It doesn't.

They've pretty much summarized above, it's to potentially add plausible deniability, but it should not work if it's a serious statement.

There is nuance and subjectivity, so unless you're dealing with 5 year olds, you could get in trouble if you, for example, post a terrorist threat even if it ends with the "...in Minecraft" line.

It's basically an Internet meme.

Do people still do it? It was a meme like 3 years ago. Anyways, unless you live in the shithole that is the UK, no one gives a shit on what you say and it's more of a gag.

See CreEpXXer49 v. Mississippi, 1066 U.S. 420 (2013)

"While the defendant's may be subject to America's laws when he acts in the real world, he is under no such obligation on the server. He is, instead, governed by the server's rules and while defendant's actions do constitute a 'dick move' they do not constitute griefing. Nor could we try him for griefing anyhow since we have no jurisdiction over a Minecraft server based in Belgium."
