Fuck me I spent like 45 mins of my time writing this only for null to turn off monochrome. Just have a toggle at the top of the screen so that people can turn it off if they want.
Fade into a rainy dirty city. The night is in it's prime as people are straggling from one building to another, laughing gleefully and indulging in their sins. Our protagonist, a lanky man with a trenchcoat, is sundering home using a poked umbrella for shelter. He flicks open a lighter for a quick smoke since the missus doesn't like the scent of tobacco in the home.
"Whether it's friends, family, or lovers, everyone has a side that they do their best to keep hidden. The people of this city are prime examples of that; they put of the facade of upstanding citizens but when the night falls their true selves comes out. You can see them trudge from one speakeasy to the next to engage with behaviors that society associates with scum."
"What's the side that I keep hidden, you ask? Heh, I thought it would be easy to guess as I'm silently prowling these streets with the scum. I prefer to slide in and out of these places and just listen to what the people say. I lurk in the shadows, absorbing the rumors and evidence. Maybe one day I'll break from my cowardice and engage in dialogue, but now is not the time. I've got a sweetheart waiting for me at home who doesn't know of my... activities, and I don't want to get her involved. If I say the wrong thing, the city's whispers will start to mention my name."
"Anyways, I gotta get going kid. My advice to you is to be aware and stay safe out there, I don't want to hear your name and see your face on the bulletins around here. Catch you around, fellow Kiwi."
