Its really not difficult. People on the left have more trait openness and tolerance for weird and anti social behavior. They also have immense institutional power and will support anyone who adopts the proper political buzzwords/positions. To the point where they will actively cover for anything those people may do, if the stated goal is the futherance of whatever cause it may be. These things when combined make "leftist" philosophy and organizations very popular for people with strong anti-social personalities. The "open minded" mentality allows for validation of their kinks, actions, etc, while the institutional influence allows them to wield power. If you are a sociopath, its a match made in heaven.
