Why don't you own a rat

I'm currently handrearing a litter of 4 orphaned baby rats. They are all now fully weaned and will be rehomed soon.

I've never taken care of rats before, it has been an absolute pleasure, although the 4 hourly feeds were harder work than my human babies were.

I was considering it until I looked it up and they die after a few year max. Teaching them tricks and getting attached to them will be hard because of how short their lives are.
Thats true. But its worth it, they are very smart and they do get attached to you easily. Its like having a pocket size puppy.

It is a heartbreak when they die, but it shouldn't discourage you from owning two. They are such precious creatures. Its such a joy to have them around, it makes it worthwhile in the end.

i had rats years ago but dont any more because i can not handle it when they die. it breaks me as a person and i struggle to move on. i can not put myself through that again.
I understand, but i also think that I gave them lovely, happy, long* (r(at)elatively) life. They are/were loved and it was their time to go. They had perfect little ratty life and enjoyed every second of it. That's something.
