Why is American grading with letters?

Some schools like mine didn't have D's, we just went straight from Cs to Fs.
100-90: :A
89 - 80: B
79 to 70: C
Anything below 70: F

The mark thresholds might differ for each subject.
For safety information, getting less than 90% deserves a fail.

The real crime is GPA. It doesn't even top out at 4 in some places. Some places it can go below 1 and still be a pass, others it can't. What a mess

They use “E” in Swedish schools.

They also use them in elementary school where I live in the US (they use different letters in fact, I just don't remember what they are outside of E and S).

European ones, Hungary grades with 5 to 1. + or - may apply.

We use 02, 4 6 10 12. It used to be -3 2 4 8 10 13? 13 was 'actual smart', but 12 is easier to attain so often youll see star-chasing girls with an average of 10-11.
