It could be sort of reputation management, like the journalists and Twitter users can't go there to farm the most politically incorrect opinions available unless they have an account, or maybe it's so that spastics who are angry about politics and get suspended for it can't keep hanging around and working themselves into a frothing rage. Or it could be to prevent newbies who join just to get mad about politics.

Point is idk exactly what the reasoning is, but it's probably not the worst idea.

It was because of some google indexing problem with copyrighted articles. I remember hating my life when I finally decided to sign up here because I enjoyed A&N so much.
