Why is my tap water red and orange and a bit crunchy?

You don't want WD-40 you want to use 3-in-one oil instead. Maybe some Red and Tacky. Red and Tacky looks like it would taste like strawberries so I'd go with that

rust. check your outside tap if it's clear then the problems in the house. if it's rusty well then it's in the main line.
either run the outside or put 3 or 4 off your cold water taps on full for 15 mins then check a glass of water for sediment.
repeat as necessary.
