Why is "Nigger" such an amazingly visceral word? - or why shaming a word only makes it more powerful and the censors of it more irrelevant

It's a flagship word in its genre. Other than that I totally with you, and have never questioned anybody's right to free speech or to police other's speech. I just answered the question - why I think it is so visceral - and added in my own thoughts on people who use the word themselves.

one thing I love is people trying to justify the use of "nigga" as a different word than "nigger", without realizing it's the same word cause niggers are too lazy to pronounce "er" with their menthol encrusted lips. it's the same thing with "hoe",thatword is just nigger for "whore" because niggers can't spell for shit.

I find that any word black people find offensive have similar effects as saying "nigger", be it "kaffir", "kushi", "abeed" etc. Niggers as the perpetual victim class bring this upon themselves.

less of a cultural sjw answer but i think part of it i the way it feels when spoken and how it sounds. it's the difference between moron and idiot, or braindead and dumbass, it's all in the mouthfeel.

I've always thought jiggaboo is criminally underused. same with mammy and lil' Sambo.

I also think it's time wop, dego, paddy, and mic made a comeback. These were perfectly good slurs for our parents and grandparents, they're good enough for us too.

But call some black any of these:

I swear there was this brief period in 2014/15 where it was okay to say it. White people were saying it around black people and nobody gave a fuck (at least in my part of the world). It was glorious. Then being a victim became fashionable and here we are today.

Personally I think it's ridiculous because what exactly do people who vilify saying nigger think is going to happen? That society in general is just going to collectively forget the word exists once we've censored it enough? No, as long as someone wants to piss a black guy off (or a white guy who likes getting mad on their behalf), they will be able to do so very easily by just uttering a single word. Everyone just needs to stop giving a fuck again. Make it normal, like the gays did with "queer".

Which is bullshit. The power words posses is imaginary, if you ignore them, all the power is gone. You can't ignore a sword rending into your flesh to stop it's "perceived" power.


We have a saying on this wonderful series of tubes that applies perfectly to what I'm saying: "Don't feed the troll."
