Why was everything in the 1970's so hideous and awful?

Seriously, why was everything from that decade so fugly?
  • Color schemes of orange, brown, yellow, and puke green
  • Bell bottoms
  • Nuthugger shorts
  • Afros
  • Coke bottle glasses
  • Paisley
  • Leisure suits
  • Disco
  • Shag carpet
  • Those greasy, poofy pompadours men styled their hair into (think Jim Jones)
Was kitsch somehow mandated by law?

You forgot macramé.

TFW macrame girl is actually attractive and probably easier to date than your run of the mill 300 pound hambeast today because of the way online dating, paradox of choice, and third wave feminism complicate things...

Back then you could find a job and start working that day if you looked like an honest kid now you need to go through applications and bullshit job interviews just to flip burgers or sell some faggot a television set. Back then you either jerked off to a magazine or used your imagination or if you were really hard up get a handy under the bleachers from the fat girl named Francine. It was a market improvement over most of the shit that goes down today albeit with more tacky interior and decorum.

The 1970s are my favorite decade, the textiles were natural, everything wasn't ran by computers, hobby interests were analogue, meeting people was organic, everyone was more social, commodities were cheaper, study was more grueling (you couldn't just google your way out of an essay, you actually had to research it), houses were cheaper. I'd take it any day to the 2020's, i just don't see passion from anyone anymore.

It was tacky, especially after the 50s Atomic aesthetic and 60s Futuristic Space Age design but enough of both remained popular so you weren't limited to wood paneling and orangey couches. People were more real, in good ways (and bad). The US was just beginning to decline and it could have been stopped but too many decided it was all about them. That was the worst part about it, the self declared "Me Movement". The media constant bombarded people with it so even if you weren't inclined to be a selfish asshole, you were being told it was good if you were. Look at any magazine from that era and it's there.

It never really went away, we watch everyone scream "WHAT ABOUT ME!!!" every day now except they do it on yt, FB and Twatter, and they're taken seriously.

I'd rather live in the 70s than now, but that's when the rot took hold, and it never went away.

The 1970s for the people in charge of such things was the hangover they had from their late 60s five-year binge of weed and psychedelics. They tried to deal with this hangover via heroin and cocaine. Worked out as well you'd expect

Isn't what we're currently living with much worse than the 70's? I'll take afros and shag carpet over slut shrapnel, danger hair, troons, morbidly obese "body positive" women, work pods and eating bugs

Doing drugs and dancing under a fancy rotating reflective ball sounds much more fun
Wrong on the 70's and the body positive women. This took off during the mid 80's. I know. I had to suffer through the bullshit. the Body image task force and the concept of Fat is beautiful happened in that era.

The concept of being a Earth Mother started in the 60's, kind of floated in the 70's and took off in the 80's... The positivity movement/Ghey movement/the fucking furries/ and other deviancy movements was a direct result of the "Moral Majority" movement during the 80's.

I have to live with the horrors to this day. It took me 32 years to function almost normally over my "People that should not be in costume" Syndrome.

Sailor Bubba? Yea he exists.

And even though this might be a stunt, it took every once of mental fortitude of not hopping on my Harley and making that long drive so I can remove his happy sacs.

The only Sailor anything that I approve of is this.

Now speaking for Cosplay...

For the record. People put a lot into cosplay with their sexy outfits. And that's cute.

BUT... Once you seen Neeekid chicks during the late 70's early 80's doing their version of cosplay (called costume theater) AT a major convention you just can not go back.

I mean come on who would not want to fuck the Green Chick From Star Trek, and you see one in costume, in green make on, just flopping those titties around while she's dancing to the old Star Trek back ground music, WITH NO PANTIES ON....

I mean priceless.

NOTE: Ron Miller has a large collection of Cosplay during the 70's to the 80's. If you can find them then they are a hoot to see.

Here is a picture of one person from that era just to prove my point on just how wild and free we were back then.

Just remember... you have cute costumes. We had Neeekid Bitches. And just like the days of the Exotic Erotic Ball, you better believe that I had one hell of a time. :woo:

I dunno OP, I liked the 70s aesthetic. Feels a lot more homey than the current stale, safe, corporate feels of life.
I couldn’t give a fuck how ugly anything was in the 1970s. If I could swap the current day cuntfuck hellhole dystopian nightmare, and instead live in the 1970s, then I’d gladly take ugly shag carpets. Hell, the carpets could be made from human shit for all I care.

I never said our Current Year wasteland of Weyland-Yutani corporate brutalism was better. It genuinely frightens me how many objects in my world have a screen or an internet connection. No wonder my eyesight is shit.
