Why would anyone choose a rook or bishop when getting their pawn to the other end of the board in chess? - Are they just retard bait?

9 times out of 10, you're gonna want a queen. Maybe a knight could be preferred in some unique situations. But why are rook and bishop even considered an option?

Is promoting pawns something that even happens in "real" chess? I honestly have no idea.

This is a bit of a rare case but sometimes it's done to prevent stalemates:
after this position, 1. Rg1+ was played.
1. ... h2xRg1=Q is an immediate stalemate.
but, 1. ... h2xRg1=R keeps the game going to an eventual black win.
