First he bought Twitter, now he's releasing a new Tesla smartphone to destroy Apple. The dude's a fucking chad. Elon Musk is the only African-American I can respect.

Chinese Android smartphones are a dime a dozen. If they make one, it might make sense for some Tesla owners but it probably won't even destroy the Nothing Phone.

Starlink is legitimately a good thing, not because it's better than every ISP, but because it can bring decent Internet service to anyone off the grid, including the most extreme rural areas and RV and boat owners. With the debut of sat-to-sat laser comms, it also has the potential to bypass balkanization by linking users to others without needing the ground stations, but nobody should count on that. Musk already joked that China would shoot the satellites out of orbit.

The Twitter buyout might help a shitty platform to stay relevant longer. Mostly it looks like a waste of money.

The people toiling away on decentralized alt-tech will "save" the Internet. By which I mean corral themselves into a tiny box that feels free.

I really do not think the Tesla phone is going to sell...like stated above companies like Xiaomi, Motorola and TCL make the shittiest phones but sell them so cheap, that the everyday user in the West does not care about what brand Android phone they use because to them Android encompasses all phones unless its Apple. Just look at how Samsung is losing big numbers and how long-time companies like LG and Sony have lost money because brand name means nothing anymore. I think the only way Tesla can make a dent is if they initially target the niche alt tech crowd and release a brand new open-source (maybe Linux based?) OS that allows for lots of customization and easy app development.
Besides I am so ready for something new, modern phones are so shit and are full of spyware. I also hate holding a giant button-less slate, when the new flip phones get better then I am switching ASAP.

I was legitimately interested in the Firefox OS phone back in the day, which was supposed to be targeting poverty price points and using web apps. But it was cancelled so they could waste Google's millions on dumber projects.

I think there's a decent amount of interest in the PinePhone, but don't expect it to be polished and usable.
