Really even the tamest years of the 2020's will be wild compared to the whole 2010's combined. 2023 already felt tame just because there wasn't another brand new global catastrophe to accelerate the Great Reset

Also I genuinely, sincerely hope nothing happens to Joe Biden while he's in office. The last thing the US needs is Hyena Harris in charge.

I’m posting this thread to ask if anyone actually believes it will be boring and normal. I personally believe it will be chaotic, absolutely fucking wild, and unfortunately the bloodiest year that millennials will have experienced so far.

I didn’t post this thread to claim it’ll be dull and monotone

the title is phrased as if you consider it plausible, and that you think it may even happen.

When you say "Will it surprise you if" you are directing the statement directly to the reader, creating an impression of conflict as the writer and the reader may be in disagreement.

If you instead wrote "Wouldn't it be surprising if" then that implies that the author doesn't consider the scenario likely and would find it surprising.

As far as the US election goes, I'm not sure what the actual "boring outcome is?

We get the Biden v Trump election that many of us don't want, but the media is promising us, and half the country rages for 4 years?

Something happens to the 2 decrepit geezers and we end up with a totally different election like Harris v DeSantis?

Personally, I want nature to take both of these guys out of the race so this country can move past Biden and Trump. I feel like we're gonna be stuck in a doom spiral as long as the country can't discuss anything other than which rich old man is more evil. In an ideal world, both sides would realize that and jettison their baggage, but the psychological incentives for the true believers always seem to point toward digging in harder against the other side.
 
There hasn't been laser beam shooting sharks swimming in lava to thrash metal yet so I expect a really lame year.

The boring option is trump loses and Biden stays in power so its another status quo managed decline with democrats in charge. Of course Trump will say it was rigged but he is already out of power so the chance of fireworks would be minimal.

The problem with 2024 election being interesting is at least right now it seems like the energy is drained from everything. The people who support trump still support trump because there is no alternative, even though his first term had mixed results. No one is energetic about wearing their MAGA hats and triggering libs like they were in 2016 and 2020. Any form of outward support for trump is just asking for trouble in your life whether from getting beaten up or losing your job.

Its very much same on the liberal side. No one is enthusiastic about Biden they just want to stop trump. I dont think we will see a BLM happenings as the Democrats are already in power.

Agree--except the part that the people supporting Trump have no alternative. If they loathe Biden and the democrats so much, they still have an upcoming primary with 3 republicans who poll better against Biden than Trump does.

This is what I desperately want--the parties to dump the 2 old lizards and give us anything at all other than a rerun of 2020. I can understand the democrats rerunning a sitting president; that's what pretty much always happens though usually the president isn't an octogenarian. (I do wonder if the dems would somehow yank Biden if the republicans were to put up someone other than Trump.) I can't understand the republicans having an active primary and just saying, "nah, we good" and just rerunning Trump til the end of time despite his many negatives.

I believe that rather than repeating the 30s and 40s like many doomposters seem to think, the US is rather going through the 70s and 80s again. Social upheaval, some nuclear scares, but ultimately nothing really changing other than some borders shifting. The US will slowly detangle itself from being the world police over the course of decades, while still remaining a technological and economic leader. AI will change society in unforseen ways. The economy number will continue to go up. This is good because we will get another 90s. Then probably repeat.

DeSantis at this point is polling worse against Chomo Joe than Trump does

there are also some pollsters, eg Economist/YouGov that have Nikki Haley polling worse against Chomo Joe than Trump does. The ones that have her over performing Trump are likely over representing affluent whites, and there’s also the factor of her not being put through the spotlight as much as Trump and DeSantis have been
