William Andrew Stamper (born March 8, 1983, Bethesda, MD) commonly known simply as "Stamper" is an alcoholic, drug-abusing, wigger criminal that used to be a Newgrounds staff member/moderator. Ostensibly, he is also a Flash animator/artist, musician, web designer, and voice actor. Over the past several years, however, his alcoholism, drug abuse, mental issues, and reckless lifestyle have caught up with him hard, causing his artistic output to dwindle and his online behavior to become very erratic as he continues to spiral downward. Once a respected figure in the Newgrounds scene, Stamper is now reduced to an unemployable, couch-surfing, middle-aged man hell-bent on burning bridges with his remaining friends and family while pridefully refusing help for his worsening problems at every turn.

Early Life (1983-2003)

Stamper was born in Bethesda, MD on March 8, 1983. His childhood is indicated to have been troubled. He claimed on SleepyCast (a podcast he hosted, more on that below) that he was molested by an older relative:

At school he was bullied for being poor,

and for being overweight.

His biological parents divorced at some point, and Stamper is very resentful of his biological father. I can't believe I forgot to mention this originally, but the whole reason he prefers to go by "Stamper" and not "Will" or "William" is because his bio dad is also named William.

His mother and stepfather (or father, not sure) were both police officers, which likely spurred him toward rebellious delinquency that would develop into a lifelong criminal streak. Most of the stories he has told about his adolescence involve breaking the law and hanging out with shady people:

Stamper talks about doing illegal street races, and the wrecks he and his friends got into:

Given the lifestyle he was living, it's likely that Stamper's first exposure to drugs and alcohol happened sometime during his teenage years.

Stamper is a high school dropout, and has never obtained a GED. In his late teens and early twenties, he worked at places like Walmart and Pizza Hut, and also took up freelance web design. He describes these early jobs on his LinkedIn page:

Eventually, he somehow ended up getting hired as a "lead media designer" for Newgrounds in 2003.

Newgrounds and Sleepycabin (2003-2015)

Stamper's first significant presence as an online personality was as a moderator and staff member of Newgrounds.

This is a screenshot from a flash that used to be hosted on the Newgrounds staff page.
Not completely sure, but here's an archive of what I think is that page:

swfchan has an archive of the swf file (NG_Fighter.swf).

If you don't know what Newgrounds is, it's a site for sharing art with an emphasis on media made using Adobe Flash or similar programs, especially animation and games. It's heyday was the early/mid 2000's, coinciding with Stamper's time as a staff member. Stamper describes his work experience there in a resume:

newgroundsemployment.png

In addition to being an employee, he was also a popular artist there in his own right. Two of his most well-known animations (NSFW both of these contain animated sex scenes) are "Rebecca"

original newgrounds upload

and "Skeet Fighter"

original newgrounds upload (part of the streetfighter collab)

Starting in 2006, Stamper also worked for the Newgrounds-adjacent video game company The Behemoth, known for making games like Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. Notably, his voice work was prominently featured in the game Battleblock Theater, where he played the role of Narrator.

(YouTube) BattleBlock Theater Development: Narration by Will Stamper

Later in 2014, Stamper and a group of other popular Newgrounds artists who were living in Philadelphia near the Newgrounds headquarters formed a company called SleepyCabin as an umbrella under which to release their art projects. Their most notable output as a group was a popular podcast called SleepyCast, featuring the various members of SleepyCabin "shooting the shit" about various everyday topics and their lives as internet artists.

(YouTube) We Are SleepyCabin

This era of Newgrounds and SleepyCabin was a relatively stable and productive period of his life. Through Newgrounds he had a large network of support he could rely on, and with SleepyCabin especially he had a group of close friends to interact with daily. It also provided him a relatively steady income and stable housing situation. This period is the bulk of his internet "career," and importantly for the purposes of this thread, it was a mostly drama-free period as far as the public was concerned. For a long time, Stamper enjoyed the reputation of a funny, talented member of the Newgrounds old guard, although his substance and mental issues persisted in the background.

Not sure which Tweet I saved this from, but it might have been any of the ones whose images don't load in the archives here and here.

Post-Sleepycabin (2015-Present)

In 2015, Stamper left SleepyCabin and Philadelphia behind to move to San Diego where the headquarters of The Behemonth is located. Though his employment with Newgrounds had ended in 2012, he was still employed by The Behemoth at that time.

This is when Stamper's downward spiral began. In contrast to the SleepyCabin days, he now lived alone in a house in San Diego with only a pet cat as company. The lack of social interaction was probably a factor, and living alone also meant that Stamper could indulge in his bad habits (alcohol, drugs, crime, etc.) without much scrutiny.

It's hard to say when exactly he lost his mind, but definitely by 2017 he was openly acting very erratic online in a way he hadn't before.

Vid from mid-2017 of Stamper being difficult with a cop in his house:

Another vid from around the same time of Stamper smashing his printer with a crowbar:

Both of these videos originate from Stamper's Twitter, where he became very active post-SleepyCabin. He had a distinct stream-of-consciousness style of posting when it came to Twitter

timeline.png
archive

and has always been known for having an "open" personality, but during these years it escalated into lolcow-ish oversharing.

There are a several idiosyncrasies about his Twitter worth noting:
  • He tweeted A LOT (personal estimate: ~40 tweets per day average)
  • Mostly stream-of-consciousness style as seen above (drugs/alcohol probably influenced this)
  • He always nuked his timeline every few days or so (would usually delete "bad" tweets soon after making them)
  • As mentioned, he had no filter and would often veer into embarrassing/personal/crazy stuff
  • Having no filter and not being afraid of political incorrectness, he got banned multiple times over the years
  • In addition to regularly getting banned, he would also change his @ semi-frequently
These combined factors made it difficult for fans to keep up with him, and more importantly meant that it was difficult to understand the full scale of his mental degradation unless you were actively watching his Twitter. This probably helped reduce the amount of negative attention he has (or rather hasn't) received over the years. Eventually he gave up on Twitter after being banned so many times, and switched over to the Community page of his YouTube channel which now acts as a spiritual successor.

The tweets in that image of his timeline above are all relatively benign by Stamper standards. Here's a small selection of the crazier types of things he would post:

There's a lot of minor incidents that could be covered with Stamper, but for rest of the OP I'd like to just give an overview of the timeline of his lolcow years including brief descriptions of the times other people got involved in his bullshit (in contrast to the majority of his content which is simply him being a drunken, drug-addled, oversharing dumbass on his own).

Overview of Lolcow Years

2018 was more of the same as 2015-2017; Stamper continued living in San Diego and broadcasting his downward spiral via Twitter. In early 2019, however, things took a turn for the worse, and he got into three bouts of drama with other people in quick succession. The first was in January, when Stamper got into a Twitter spat with a Newgrounds user @NG_Tyler over his opinion that empathy is a bad thing:

01000.png 00000.png
archive (first Tweet)

Stamper then got suspended, probably for calling him a faggot, and blamed it on Tyler.

02000.png 03000.png 04000.png

Tyler blocked Stamper, and Stamper seethed at him for the next few days. This included a claim of having dirt on him from people he had wronged.

Stamper calmed down in the short term, but spent the next couple of months taking occasional jabs at him with tweets like this:

I wrote a post that goes over this drama in more detail here (onion).

It was also in January that Stamper revealed he had been let go from The Behemoth due to "state ordinances," putting his financial situation in jeopardy.

Side Note: As mentioned in the SleepyCabin thread (onion) and as Stamper himself has mentioned several times over the years, he was involved in a sexual harassment lawsuit ( archive ) against the Behemoth, so that may have also been a factor (or maybe even the real reason he was fired).

Then in February, what is arguably the most serious incident of his post-SleepyCabin years began when he let a homeless woman into his house.

01000.png

archive

Over the next month or so she repeatedly came and went, with Stamper giving constant updates on the situation via Twitter. The extremely short version of events is that it turned out she had ties to gangbangers, and eventually Stamper ended up having to hide from them inside his own house.

23500.png

archive

They showed up again later on the 29th of March (no video, just tweets):

gangbangers2.png

Ultimately, Stamper avoided being murdered, and the homeless lady stopped showing up.

I wrote 2 posts that go over this drama in more detail here and here (onion1 onion2).

Stamper was already trying leave San Diego, presumably because he could no longer afford his bills/expenses after being fired. The combined stress of the homeless lady incident, preparing to move, his bleak future, and his substance abuse caused his misery to reach a local maximum. Those last days of March and first week of April he made lots of depressed tweets, culminating with a claim that he was considering suicide:

27000.png

Which prompted Mick Lauer aka Ricepirate, one of the other members of SleepyCabin, to try and contact him, sparking the third bit of drama within the span of a few months.

29000.png 30000.png

archive

Mick foreshadowed this confrontation earlier with a post he made on the SleepyCabin subreddit on January 23 complaining about Stamper's unwillingness to accept help from his friends:

05000.png

Stamper got pissed off and indignant in response:

33000.png 34000.png
archive
archive

Stamper eventually calmed down, and Mick visited his house to talk to him and help him pack his belongings.

I wrote a post going over this drama in more detail here (onion).

In late April, Stamper finally got out of San Diego and moved in with his sister in Houston, TX.

airport.png
archive

His time living with his sister was less chaotic/eventful than his time in San Diego. His sister is married with kids, and being around family seemed to improve his disposition. His constant manic Twitter posting continued, however, and apparently so did his alcoholism; though his sister initially appeared to be on good terms with him, by the end of his time there she had grown frustrated with his refusal to accept help for his issues.

16000.png
archive

The most notable incident from his time with his sister happened in September when Stamper accidentally let her cat out of the house while she was gone, prompting yet another public spat on Twitter:

12000.png
archive

Sometime around November, Stamper moved from his sister's house to the apartment of a fan named Jacob (Twitter: xJ_Takax) who also lived in Houston and offered to let him live there. Together, they started a Twitch gaming channel called DickPlanet. The big incident from this period was another bout of Twitter drama, this time involving one of his Twitter followers (AuntCunty). She accidentally discovered that Stamper was trying to date multiple girls over Twitter, including one of her friends, and after she confronted Stamper about it he acknowledged the drama (unusual for him) with a public statement detailing his side of the story:

Note: the "Elly" mentioned in the second image was a channel manager for DickPlanet.
01000.pngsituation.png
archive (Tweet)

The rest of the document is all screenshots of tweets and DM's that support Stamper's story. AuntCunty responded with several lengthy Twitter rants about the issue and released a lot of her own DM's to refute the claims Stamper made in the document. The drama slowly died down over the next few months.

Stamper left Houston and DickPlanet behind in July of 2020 when he moved to his mother's house in Rock Springs, WY. His time there was the least eventful yet, as there were no notable incidents during this period. Apparently his mom was particularly concerned about his health, and focused on nurturing him into better shape during his stay. This pic from a DickPlanet Stream shows that he was looking kinda fucked up physically at the time.

fuckedup.png

For whatever reason, Stamper moved again in mid-March of 2021 to a small farmhouse in Paw Paw, MI, seemingly under the condition that he help the owner by doing farmhand work.

A couple weeks later on March 31, Stamper got into his most recent episode of drama involving another person when he lashed out at OneyNG aka Chris O'Neill, another fellow SleepyCast member/Newgrounds animator and host of the OneyPlays let's play channel. Oney is more popular and active than Stamper nowadays (OneyPlays had around 900k subs and counting when this happened), so this incident got a lot more attention than his other fights with people.

archive (2nd Tweet)
archive (3rd Tweet)

Chris responded thusly:

23000.png
24000.png 25000.png
archive
archive
archive

This surprised many fans who believed they were still on good terms, and is probably the most prominent instance of someone close to Stamper explicitly calling out his drug/mental issues. Stamper got banned from Twitter almost immediately after making those posts (his last ban; he resumed his usual shitposting on YouTube that April and hasn't gone back since), and switched over to Facebook that day to continue flinging shit at Chris for a bit until settling down.

27000.png28000.PNG31000.jpg

Note the similarities between this incident and the spat he had with Tyler (accuses both of getting him banned from twitter, claims to have dirt on them).

Whenever fans brought up the incident to him on his YouTube Community page, he would usually deflect and snark at them.

youtubemeth.png

Stamper stayed at the farm in Michigan for only about two months. I'm not sure of the exact date, but approximately sometime in June of 2021 he moved back to Pennsylvania. Not back to Philadelphia, but the close-by Reading/Allentown area. He was quieter about what his living situation was during this time, but I personally suspect he was taken in by another fan. He may have become temporarily homeless toward the end of his stay; in mid-November he uploaded some videos where he appears to be squatting in an abandoned building.

archive

Stamper left PA to return to his mother's house in November, and arrived there at the beginning of December. He was only there for a few days, however, before he got arrested on December 6 for DUI and driving with an open container of alcohol. He spent almost two months in jail before being released on January 31, 2022.

stamperarrest1.jpg
stamperreleased.png
archive

He hasn't done anything interesting in the months since. so that about sums it up as of this writing. To give a short recap of the Stamper Timeline™:
  • Mid-2015 to April, 2019: San Diego
  • April, 2019 to November, 2019: sister's house in Houston, TX
  • November, 2019 to July 2020: xJ_Takax's apartment in Houston, TX
  • July, 2020 to March, 2021: mother's house in Rock Springs, WY part 1
  • March, 2021 to June(?), 2021: farmhouse in Pawpaw, MI
  • June(?), 2021 to December, 2021: fan's house(?) in Reading/Allentown, PA (possibly homeless toward the end)
  • December, 2021 to present: mother's house part 2 (including Sweetwater County Jail sentence)
Meaning that he has moved 6 times in the past 3 years alone since he lost his job at the Behemoth.

Conclusion

Only time will tell what sort of alcoholic shenanigans Stamper will get into in the future. The arrest was a new low for him, and really he just seems to have only gotten worse over the years since he left SleepyCabin. He's 39 years old as of this writing, and since he's been abusing drugs and alcohol for most of his adult life it probably won't be too long before he starts to suffer serious medical issues. It's a possible that he may not live to be 60. Right now his mother might be the only person still willing to attempt rescuing him from himself after he's proven to everyone how unwilling he is to accept help, and if she ever gets sick of his bullshit then one can only imagine what sorts of disasters will befall him. He hasn't been posting on his Community page as much in the months since his release from jail, so maybe his current stay with his mother is leading to improvements. I've been fooled before, however, and personally I think the worst is yet to come.

Here's a recent picture of him that his mother posted on Twitter, taken on his 39th Birthday:

There is also this archive page

If you want to archive something that Stamper has posted, DO IT ASAP. He has an extremely well proven track record of deleting shit hours or even minutes after posting it. Frankly, anything Stamper personally controls (his YouTube, Instagram, Reddit, etc.) is at risk of being nuked eventually if he suddenly decides he wants it gone.

Nigga who? I cannot look at Newgrounds the same way ever. And his mugshot give off meth head vibes.

This is absolutely crazy. To me it just seemed like he just kind of fell off the face of the earth after a while and everyone else from Newgrounds either faded into obscurity or at least had an appearance on Oney's channel. Stamper always gave off a vibe of being a little bit more "out there" than the others but not to this degree.

Man, it's such a shame to see him go off the deep end like that. He was a big part of that old school Newgrounds community, and now to see him in this state is just heartbreaking.

I'd say some of the best shit he worked on were videos like these:
Ironically enough both Mick and Oney now hate him for his drug-ridden issues. Just really goes to show how that era of the Internet is dying off.

Stamper's story is so fucking depressing. I feel bad for him, his mom, and his sister. His mom and sister especially for trying to be his support network even though he's so entrenched in his vices he can't fight against them and can only wallow. Helping out an addicted family member isn't easy, nor is cutting them off after trying to help them.

I hope there's some way this can end happily, where he's back on the right track with his family and finds new friends. This definitely fits within the sadcow category (if that still exists or even ever existed at all, I forget).

Really shows how powerful addiction can just obliterate someone's life. A pretty fun and comfy career doing what you enjoy while living amongst friends with a decently large following totally swept away in the span of 3-5 years.
He's not even recognizable in the most recent pictures, he's like a husk.

Such a depressing story. Weirdest thing to me is how Stamper would do the same tweeting style and adding random gifs for tweets about destroying his life and coming up with recipe ideas. The way the innocent and disturbing just flowed together on his twitter account was truly bizarre to witness.
